Astronauts aboard the Gemini 7 space mission more than 60 years ago reported seeing a \u201cbogey\u201d\u00a0unidentified object<\/a>, with one describing it as a \u201cbrilliant body \u2026 with trillions of particles on it,\u201d according to files released by the Pentagon<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n

NASA astronauts Frank Borman and Jim Lovell detailed the rare sighting to mission control, and their observations were recorded in a transcript made public for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a bogey at 10 o\u2019clock high,\u201d Borman radioed on Dec. 5, 1965, according to the transcript.<\/p>\n

When a NASA official questioned whether Borman was describing the Gemini craft\u2019s own booster rocket or describing a \u201cnatural sighting,\u201d the astronaut answered: \u201cWe have debris up here. This is an actual sighting.\u201d<\/p>\n

After confirming with mission control that he could also see the booster, Borman continued: \u201cWe have very, very many, ah \u2014 it looks like hundreds of little particles going by to the left out about three or four miles.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his next message, which the transcript shows was partially garbled, Borman indicated the particles were \u201cat 90 degrees\u201d from the \u201cpath of the vehicle\u201d and had begun \u201cgoing into polar orbit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWere these particles in addition to the booster and the bogey at 10 o\u2019clock high?\u201d mission control asked.<\/p>\n

At that point, Lovell \u2014 best known for commanding the abortive Apollo 13 mission five years later and being played by Tom Hanks in the 1995 movie of the same name \u2014 chimed in with what he saw.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the booster on my side,\u201d he radioed back before describing the UFO: \u201cIt\u2019s a brilliant body in the sun against a black background with trillions of particles on it \u2026 it\u2019s ahead of us at two o\u2019clock, slowly tumbling.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Department of War unveiled its new website dedicated to UFO files, releasing an initial cache of 162 documents in response to a February executive order by President Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe American people can now access the federal government\u2019s declassified UAP files instantly. \u201cWhile past administrations sought to discredit or dissuade the American people, President Trump is focused on providing maximum transparency to the public, who can ultimately make up their own minds about the information contained in these files.\u201d<\/p>\n
