Russia has publicly displayed its new jet-powered strike drone, the Geran-5, for the first time during the Victory Day parade in\u00a0Moscow on\u00a0May 9, according to\u00a0footage broadcast by\u00a0the Russian YouTube channel OTS LIVE.<\/p>\n

The unmanned aerial vehicle appeared<\/a> mounted on\u00a0a\u00a0launch catapult and was shown alongside other Russian military systems during the parade coverage. The drone visually resembles Ukraine\u2019s domestically developed Peklo jet-powered drone platform.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0previously published assessments by\u00a0Ukraine\u2019s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Russia first used the Geran-5 type against Ukraine in\u00a0January 2026.<\/p>\n

The drone measures approximately six meters in\u00a0length with a\u00a0wingspan of\u00a0around 5.5 meters, placing it\u00a0closer in\u00a0size to\u00a0a\u00a0small cruise missile than to\u00a0a\u00a0conventional Shahed-type loitering munition.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0HUR, the Geran-5 uses a\u00a012-channel Kometa satellite navigation system, a\u00a0Raspberry Pi-based controller, and 3G\/4G communication modules for targeting and navigation. Ukrainian intelligence has also stated that the drone relies on\u00a0foreign-made electronics, including components originating from the US, Germany, and China.<\/p>\n

The system is\u00a0reportedly powered by\u00a0a\u00a0Chinese-made Telefly jet engine, similar to\u00a0the propulsion unit used in\u00a0the earlier Geran-3 drone but with higher thrust characteristics.<\/p>\n

HUR estimates<\/a> that the drone carries a\u00a090-kilogram warhead and has a\u00a0strike range of\u00a0approximately 1,000 kilometers.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian intelligence has also warned that the Geran-5 may be\u00a0adapted for launch from airborne platforms, including Su-25 attack aircraft. Images previously circulated online showed the drone mounted under the wing of\u00a0a\u00a0Russian Su-25.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition to\u00a0its primary strike role, the drone may also be\u00a0capable of\u00a0carrying R-73 infrared-guided air-to-air missiles, according to\u00a0HUR assessments. Such a\u00a0configuration could allow the platform to\u00a0engage aerial targets and complicate interception efforts by\u00a0helicopters or\u00a0combat aircraft.<\/p>\n

Earlier, analysts from the OSINT group Strategic Aviation of\u00a0Russia reported<\/a> that Moscow had established new launch infrastructure in\u00a0the Oryol region for jet-powered Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5 drones, including systems capable of\u00a0speeds up\u00a0to\u00a0600\u00a0km\/h and strike ranges of\u00a0around 1,000 kilometers.<\/p>\n
