{"id":948666,"date":"2026-05-09T16:40:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T16:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/948666\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T16:40:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T16:40:15","slug":"john-swinney-confirms-plans-to-request-indyref2-from-westminster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/948666\/","title":{"rendered":"John Swinney confirms plans to request indyref2 from Westminster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The First Minister said he still plans to hold a vote on a Section 30 order after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25059069.news-interviews-updates-snp\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNP<\/a>&#8216;s emphatic victory in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/holyrood\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holyrood<\/a> election, although the party didn&#8217;t achieve a majority.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  During the Holyrood campaign, Swinney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/26055573.snp-will-hold-vote-hold-indyref2-first-day-holyrood-term\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeatedly said he would bring forward a vote on the first day of the next Scottish Parliament term<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He also said the question would be the same as during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/23821356.the-2014-referendum-sparked-new-political-generation-representing-it\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>2014 referendum<\/strong><\/a> and that the SNP would publish a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/26027185.snp-manifesto-says-scottish-independence\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>draft referendum bill<\/strong><\/a> within the first 100 days of the parliamentary term.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  When asked whether that plan remains during a press conference in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/local-news\/edinburgh-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh<\/a>, the First Minister said: &#8220;I certainly intend to carry on with my plans, yes.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/26092381.piers-morgan-blasted-greens-deputy-leader-weird-question-question-time\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Piers Morgan blasted by Greens deputy leader for \u2018weird question\u2019 on Question Time<\/strong><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He then added: &#8220;I&#8217;ll talk to the leaders of all political parties with the exception of Reform about how we might collaborate to improve the lives of people in Scotland.
