{"id":950892,"date":"2026-05-10T17:44:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T17:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/950892\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T17:44:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T17:44:15","slug":"moscow-accuses-kyiv-of-violating-us-brokered-truce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/950892\/","title":{"rendered":"Moscow accuses Kyiv of violating US-brokered truce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russia and Ukraine swapped accusations of breaking a U.S.-brokered ceasefire on Sunday, with both sides claiming to have suffered casualties in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drone and artillery strikes<\/a> over the past 24 hours. <\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia was neither observing the truce nor \u201ceven particularly trying to,\u201d adding there had been no calm in front line areas despite a lull in large-scale attacks and pledged that Ukraine would retaliate to any aggression shown by Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday and today, Ukraine refrained from long-range retaliatory actions in response to the absence of large-scale Russian attacks,\u201d Zelenskyy said in evening statement, stressing Ukraine\u2019s increasing ability to hit targets far inside Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to respond in the same mirrorlike manner, and if the Russians decide to return to full-scale warfare, our response will be immediate and significant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ivan Fedorov, head of Ukraine\u2019s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, said one person had been killed and three others had been injured by Russian artillery and drone attacks in the last 24 hours. Another 16 people were also wounded in attacks across other regions of Ukraine, local officials said. <\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Ministry of Defense, meanwhile, accused Kyiv of committing more than 1,000 ceasefire violations, state media reported, citing a daily briefing. The ministry said Ukrainian forces had attacked civilian targets in several Russian regions and carried out strikes against Russian military positions on the front line. <\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s military had \u201cresponded in kind\u201d to the ceasefire violations, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>Two people were injured by Ukrainian shelling in the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine\u2019s Kherson region, the area\u2019s Moscow-installed leader Vladimir Saldo said. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that Russia and Ukraine had bowed to his request for a ceasefire running Saturday through Monday to mark <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-victory-day-parade-security-moscow-may-9-7cb7b5cbfbaf993dadfe9bafb5cf5262\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victory Day<\/a>, the Russian celebration marking the defeat of Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said there would also be an exchange of prisoners, declaring that the break in fighting could be the \u201cbeginning of the end\u201d of the war.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy, who had said Russian authorities \u201cfear drones may buzz over Red Square\u201d during the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-moscow-parade-ceasefire-cde7ec7a0fb10a3e2563171b931485e8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 9 parade<\/a> in Moscow, followed up on Trump\u2019s statement by mockingly declaring Red Square temporarily off-limits for Ukrainian strikes to allow the Russian parade to go ahead. The Kremlin shrugged off the comment as a \u201csilly joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Sunday he expects U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump\u2019s son-in-law, Jared Kushner \u2014 who have both taken a leading role in negotiations to end the war \u2014 to visit Moscow \u201csoon enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he stressed that Moscow would not move from its demand that Kyiv\u2019s troops withdraw from Ukraine\u2019s eastern Donbas region. \u201cUntil (Ukraine) takes that step, we can hold several more rounds, dozens of rounds (of negotiations), but we\u2019ll be stuck in the same place,\u201d Ushakov was cited by the state news agency Tass as saying.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-odesa-drones-ceasefire-prisoner-exchange-0f6548cf06dde9a2c261b22af17aa9ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Previous ceasefires,<\/a> most recently at Orthodox Easter, have failed to produce any tangible results amid deep mistrust between Moscow and Kyiv more than four years after Russia launched its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invasion<\/a> of its neighbor.
