A man whose vehicle sustained serious damage while parked at Bristol Airport’s Silver Zone car park has described the ongoing treatment he is receiving as ‘absolutely shocking beyond belief’.<\/p>\n

George Sloan’s Range Rover had its door panel torn off in an incident while he was away on holiday over the New Year period.<\/p>\n

His vehicle was finally returned to him following a four-month wait, yet the airport has so far declined to offer any compensation beyond covering the cost of repairs. This has left Mr Sloan, who finances his car through monthly payments, almost \u00a33,000 out of pocket.<\/p>\n

Adding further frustration, he claims his car came back with a small dent in the door, while his partner was forced to drive all the way from Bristol to Birmingham to collect the vehicle on his behalf, as the airport refused to arrange delivery. Mr Sloan is primarily based in Scotland.<\/p>\n

“They’ve basically told me to drop it and that the case is closed,” Mr Sloan said, reports Bristol Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Well, the case isn’t closed and I’m chasing them for more because it’s just absolutely shocking beyond belief.<\/p>\n

“They haven’t even refunded the original cost of the parking and I didn’t get my motor back in anywhere near the condition it should’ve been.”<\/p>\n

Mr Sloan said he remained determined to obtain further details about precisely how his car suffered such extensive damage in what was meant to be a safe and secure location.<\/p>\n

The airport informed him the door panel was torn off following a low-speed collision. An airport spokesperson previously told Bristol Live that the damage had been caused when a member of staff was reversing another customer’s considerably larger vehicle, with the tow bar catching the side of Mr Sloan’s door and inadvertently forcing it into another vehicle, ripping the side of the door off.<\/p>\n

Yet the airport has failed to supply photographic or video evidence to support this account, either to Bristol Live or to Mr Sloan himself.<\/p>\n

The Silver Zone car park represents Bristol Airport’s most economical parking choice, though it still sets motorists back roughly \u00a3100 per week. Those using the facility hand over their keys before an airport driver relocates their vehicle to a ‘secure, on-site car park’.<\/p>\n

The airport promotes its own car parks as safer alternatives to the growing number of unofficial operators that have emerged with increasing frequency over the last decade, during which time official parking charges have risen dramatically.<\/p>\n

Revenue from car parking represents the airport’s largest single income stream, with the overwhelming majority of passengers continuing to reach the terminal by car despite the launch of a new \u00a360m ‘public transport interchange’ last July.<\/p>\n
