COPS are installing spy cameras in Scotland\u2019s most firebombed village.<\/p>\n

It comes after more than 30 arson attacks in Bothwell, Lanarkshire<\/a> \u2014 with vehicles and restaurants torched.<\/p>\n

Several of the attacks have seen four eateries torched in the \u201chistoric village\u201d \u2013 which was once a haven for footballers<\/a> and A-list celebs \u2013 since 2019.<\/p>\n

The latest saw two cars torched outside a home<\/a> just days apart in January this year.<\/p>\n

Two restaurants linked to former brothel boss Hugh O\u2019Donnell \u2013 who is linked to The Cut steakhouse and Nel and Co \u2013 were set alight last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite major probes launched into the blaze attacks, cops closed down the investigations with no arrests<\/a> made.<\/p>\n

Now force chiefs have revealed they\u2019ll set up CCTV<\/a> and number plate recognition cameras in the leafy suburb, which some locals have dubbed \u201cBoth-hell\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cops hope the ANPR cams will be able to capture any suspicious motors<\/a> in the area and even help them take down underworld hoods.<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland report said: \u201cFollowing the rise of serious incidents in the Bothwell area, Police Scotland<\/a> and South Lanarkshire Council will be implementing cameras that can be utilised by police to assist with any future enquiries.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Lanarkshire Council will be installing a camera within Bothwell Main Street. This will not apply to the residents of Uddingston.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat will concern Uddingston is the planned installation of ANPR cameras within the Lanarkshire area. The exact location of these cameras cannot be disclosed. <\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, they will be positioned to cover ingress and egress routes of Bothwell and Uddingston. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a number of these cameras operating between Lanarkshire and Glasgow<\/a> which mostly cover motorways<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese new cameras will allow police to supplement the use of existing ANPR cameras to monitor the movement of any suspicious vehicles used in the commission of crime within the localised vicinity.\u201d<\/p>\n

We told in November how O\u2019Donnell called for police to be \u201cmore proactive\u201d in tracing those behind the mayhem.<\/p>\n

He also insisted he was puzzled as to why restaurants linked to him were being targeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His Italian restaurant in the town, DaLuciano, was repeatedly attacked <\/a>by blaze thugs and burned to the ground in 2023.<\/p>\n

Another business, the San Vincenzo restaurant, which sits as a derelict wreck next to the now gutted Nel and Co<\/a>, was repeatedly firebombed in 2019<\/a> \u2013 including one attack where it was ram raided with a Vauxhall Corsa which was driven into the restaurant and then set alight.<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: \u201cWe use Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology<\/a> to help detect, deter and disrupt criminality, including tackling organised crime groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is also a useful tool in tracking down stolen vehicles, acquisitive crime and also helping to trace those who have been reported missing<\/a>.<\/p>\n
