S. President Donald Trump to approve the sale not only of Tomahawk missiles, but also of Typhon ground-based launchers. Berlin views the systems as a tool for deterring Russia.

Sources told the FT that the German government had revived its attempt to acquire the American long-range missiles and wanted Washington to agree to a package including both Tomahawks and Typhon launchers.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to travel to Washington to restart talks on the purchase of long-range weapons. One FT source said Germany had already submitted a proposal to buy such systems in July 2025, but had not received a response from the United States.

At the same time, the source did not rule out that the meeting could fall through because of deteriorating relations between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Another person cited by the paper suggested that Berlin may be prepared to pay more for the Tomahawks than Japan and the Netherlands, which are already awaiting deliveries of the missiles. The publication said Germany could be willing to offer a higher price in order to secure the deal.

The Financial Times also noted that after taking office, Merz promised to allocate more than €750 billion for the Bundeswehr and said Germany intended to meet NATO’s new spending targets ahead of schedule. However, the dispute with Trump disrupted the chancellor’s plans, leaving Berlin to seek Washington’s approval for the arms sale.

The article adds that Europe currently has no ground-based long-range missile systems ready for immediate use.

Germany is seeking US Tomahawk missiles and Typhon launchers as Berlin looks for long-range systems to deter Russia,…

[5310
7668,32,2000,299,29861,1945,1824,265581,154178,265579,265580
0":"post-951733","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-boris-pistorius","9":"tag-donald-trump","10":"tag-eu","11":"tag-europe","12":"tag-financial-times","13":"tag-friedrich-merz","14":"tag-germany","15":"tag-russia-deterrence","16":"tag-tomahawk-missiles","17":"tag-typhon-launchers","18":"tag-us-weapons
["GET
