She&#8217;s skipped projects, meetings, and the chase for scale. \u201cYou can always earn more money but you can\u2019t buy back time,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>And while those decisions have come with trade-offs, she doesn&#8217;t romanticise the sacrifice. \u201cI\u2019ve said no to meetings and projects that I would have loved to attend to grow and learn\u2014because it takes time away from me spending time with my children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She wants her children to understand that. \u201cI\u2019d want them to know I made choices considering them in mind,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd hopefully they will appreciate and see my perspective as a mum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Designing with empathy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise that motherhood has quietly shaped both Lloyd\u2019s Inn and Good Addition. The hotel has evolved to better accommodate families and new parents; the clothing line includes cuts that work for postnatal bodies without compromising on design.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven small things like storage solutions for pumping or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatlerasia.com\/power-purpose\/diversity\/tatler-community-motherhood-pregnancy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">breastfeeding<\/a> mums matter,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd for clothes, the cuts can be made mum-tum friendly so they take you through pregnancy and postpartum and still look great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What makes Chang\u2019s approach particularly modern is her willingness to acknowledge the emotional labour involved\u2014both at home and in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcknowledging emotions is an important aspect of empathy and seeing a different perspective,\u201d she says. \u201cInstead of downplaying emotion as a weakness, why not use it as a strength?
