A section of the A4174 Ring Road will be closed overnight for a week because of \u2018quality issues\u2019 identified in previous work.<\/p>\n
Resurfacing works will take place on the westbound carriageway of the A4174 between the Wick Wick and Bromley Heath roundabouts from Monday May 11, over seven nights, between 8pm and 6am. The westbound part of that section of road will be closed while the works take place.<\/p>\n
The problems were identified at the end of a project to introduce over 4km of improved cycle lanes and footpaths, which concluded towards the end of last year. That project included introducing new paths, widening existing paths, resurfacing works and installing new pedestrian crossings.<\/p>\n
Following completion of those works, South Gloucestershire<\/a> Council \u201cidentified some unforeseen quality issues with the material provided.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat we\u2019ve discovered is that during the mixing operation and the production of the asphalt, there\u2019s been some concealed elements within the plant itself that have broken down,\u201d Shaun Wilson, operations and highway maintenance manager, said in a recent YouTube video announcing the re-opening of the Hambrook junction<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201c(It is) extremely unfortunate and it resulted in the asphalt being contaminated with some rubber.\u201d<\/p>\n To see all the planning applications, traffic diversions, road layout changes, alcohol licence applications and more in your area, enter your postcode below or visit the Public Notice Portal <\/strong>HERE<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n The supplier will perform the remedial work at no extra cost to the council, and by extension taxpayers.<\/p>\n \u201cWe work with the supplier in accordance with our contractual requirements and everything is being replaced with no cost to South Gloucestershire,\u201d Mr Wilson said.<\/p>\n The contaminated asphalt won\u2019t be usable in other roads but it will be repurposed elsewhere in other aggregates.<\/p>\n
