Police officers were spat at as they detained a man<\/p>\n

A man chased another man with a knife and grabbed him by the neck in the early hours. Merseyside Police were called to Pine Close in Huyton<\/a> at around 3.10am on Monday, May 12.<\/p>\n

It followed a report a man had a knife and was chasing another man before grabbing him around the neck. Eyewitnesses at the scene said they saw several police officers carrying out searches in the area and the police dog unit near the Shell garage in the early hours of this morning.<\/p>\n

Officers attended and following a chase detained a man on Liverpool Road as he kicked out and spat at officers. Merseyside Police <\/a>said there was no suggestion the knife was used on the victim and no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

A 40-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest. He is still in police custody to be questioned.<\/p>\n

Inspector Neighbourhood Policing David Hassett said: \u201cReducing knife crime is a priority all year round in Merseyside. We are committed to proactively use stop and search powers, carry out open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners to remove weapons from the streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we are making positive progress, we understand the devastating consequences of carrying a knife and are relentless in our approach to targeting and pursuing criminals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have tragic consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.<\/p>\n

“There is no place for knives in our communities. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch so we can act on community intelligence or call Crimestoppers anonymously.\u201d<\/p>\n
