A man has appeared in court for the first time charged with murder, following the discovery of a man’s body on a roof garden in Bristol.<\/p>\n

Nigel Lubban was formerly charged with the murder of Anthony Clemmings, known as Tony, over the weekend, and appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court to face that charge for the first time on Monday morning (May 11).<\/p>\n

Wearing a grey sweatshirt and jogging bottoms, he answered only to confirm his name, date of birth and that he was of ‘no fixed abode’, but was not required to enter a plea to the single charge of murder.<\/p>\n

Lubban, 50, was arrested in the West Midlands last week, following the discovery of a man’s body on a rooftop terrace in Redcliff Street, Redcliffe, on the morning of Tuesday, May 5.<\/p>\n

Announcing the charge of murder, DCI Laura Miller, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a murder charge against Nigel Lubban.<\/p>\n

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family, who have been informed of this significant development as part of our investigation.<\/p>\n

“This is an incredibly upsetting time for the family and our thoughts remain with them, and they continue to ask for privacy, and we would therefore ask people to be respectful of those wishes.”<\/p>\n

Tony’s family paid tribute to him<\/a>, calling him a “much-loved son, brother and uncle”, saying: “His death has come as a huge shock to us.”<\/p>\n
