{"id":953197,"date":"2026-05-11T18:55:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T18:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953197\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T18:55:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T18:55:27","slug":"i-cant-believe-i-was-able-to-film-this-drone-pilot-captures-astonishing-shark-hunt-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953197\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI can\u2019t believe I was able to film this.\u201d Drone pilot captures astonishing shark hunt in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A wildlife cinematographer off the coast of Magnetic Island, Australia, has shared mind-blowing footage of a winghead shark hunting at the water\u2019s surface.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t believe I was able to film this,\u201d says aerial wildlife cinematographer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/oliverscheele\/reels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oliver Scheele<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DXTftQdgenj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThis is not your typical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/scalloped-hammerheads-species-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hammerhead<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This species has the widest cephalofoil (the hammer-shaped head) of any hammerhead shark species.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lateral wing-like extensions form the characteristic \u2018hammer\u2019 shape called a cephalofoil, which can reach almost half of the total length of the winghead shark\u2019s body!\u201d says the Australian Museum on its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/australian.museum\/learn\/animals\/fishes\/winghead-shark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlong the front of their cephalofoil you can find another one of the winghead shark\u2019s distinguishing features: a pair of massive nostrils,\u201d they add. \u201cThese nostrils are enormously expanded compared to other hammerheads, each extending twice as long as the width of the shark\u2019s mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinghead sharks are extremely cryptic, rarely seen \u2013 often living in murky waters and are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/species\/41810\/124417935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">critically endangered<\/a>,\u201d adds Scheele. \u201cI am beyond words in how privileged I feel to be able to capture such an amazing event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><video controls=\"\" poster=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/05\/Winghead-shark-hunt-in-Australia.jpg\" preload=\"none\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2026\/05\/Winghead-shark-hunt-in-Australia.mp4\"\/>Incredible footage of a winghead shark hunting off the coast of Magnet Island in Australia.
