{"id":953529,"date":"2026-05-11T22:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T22:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953529\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T22:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T22:36:12","slug":"council-bosses-in-discussions-with-contractors-over-lettering-on-new-welcome-to-leeds-sign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953529\/","title":{"rendered":"Council bosses &#8216;in discussions&#8217; with contractors over lettering on new &#8216;Welcome to Leeds&#8217; sign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Council bosses say they are &#8220;in discussions&#8221; with contractors involved in the revamp of Leeds Railway Station after questions about the lettering on a new sign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">A \u00a346 million upgrade to make the station more passenger and pedestrian friendly and is expected to finish later this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">But some social media users have pointed out apparent issues with the letters on the new &#8220;Welcome to Leeds&#8221; sign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Some have said the characters are misaligned and there has been speculation over whether the &#8220;d&#8221; in &#8220;Leeds&#8221; is an inverted &#8220;p&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: &#8220;We are aware of a potential issue with Welcome to Leeds signage at Leeds Train Station and we are in discussions with the relevant contractors to ensure any error which is then identified is rectified by them as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Speaking to ITV News outside the station, one passenger said: &#8220;When I look, you can actually see that the &#8216;d&#8217; is lower than the other letters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Another said: &#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t have noticed had I not been asked, but the &#8216;e&#8217;s&#8217; are slightly bigger than the body of the &#8216;d,&#8217; and I think that&#8217;s why it looks a little bit odd.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">One woman said: &#8220;Is a &#8216;p&#8217; not just an upside-down &#8216;d&#8217; anyway?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Commenting on Facebook, Jayne Berg said: &#8220;The &#8216;d&#8217; in Leeds is actually a &#8216;p&#8217; upside down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Heather Evans said &#8220;The two &#8216;e&#8217;s are too close together but I can&#8217;t see anything wrong with the &#8216;d&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">But Andrew Jackson said: &#8220;It simply has to be a \u2018d\u2019 because the sign was manufactured specifically for the station &#8211; the letters weren\u2019t taken from a big bin containing an entire alphabet of that size, font and colour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\"><strong class=\"_1ATDh\">Reporting History sees journalists join <\/strong><a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/meet-the-team\/tom-bradby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"_1ATDh\">News At Ten anchor Tom Bradby<\/strong><\/a><strong class=\"_1ATDh\"> to revisit their remarkable on-the-day reports of the defining events of the modern age.
