Council bosses say they are “in discussions” with contractors involved in the revamp of Leeds Railway Station after questions about the lettering on a new sign.<\/p>\n
A \u00a346 million upgrade to make the station more passenger and pedestrian friendly and is expected to finish later this year.<\/p>\n
But some social media users have pointed out apparent issues with the letters on the new “Welcome to Leeds” sign.<\/p>\n
Some have said the characters are misaligned and there has been speculation over whether the “d” in “Leeds” is an inverted “p”.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: “We are aware of a potential issue with Welcome to Leeds signage at Leeds Train Station and we are in discussions with the relevant contractors to ensure any error which is then identified is rectified by them as soon as possible.”<\/p>\n
Speaking to ITV News outside the station, one passenger said: “When I look, you can actually see that the ‘d’ is lower than the other letters.”<\/p>\n
Another said: “I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been asked, but the ‘e’s’ are slightly bigger than the body of the ‘d,’ and I think that’s why it looks a little bit odd.”<\/p>\n
One woman said: “Is a ‘p’ not just an upside-down ‘d’ anyway?”<\/p>\n
Commenting on Facebook, Jayne Berg said: “The ‘d’ in Leeds is actually a ‘p’ upside down.”<\/p>\n
Heather Evans said “The two ‘e’s are too close together but I can’t see anything wrong with the ‘d’.”<\/p>\n
But Andrew Jackson said: “It simply has to be a \u2018d\u2019 because the sign was manufactured specifically for the station – the letters weren\u2019t taken from a big bin containing an entire alphabet of that size, font and colour.”<\/p>\n
