{"id":953766,"date":"2026-05-12T01:05:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T01:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953766\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T01:05:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T01:05:14","slug":"inverness-gulls-are-waking-care-home-residents-and-dive-bombing-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/953766\/","title":{"rendered":"Inverness gulls are &#8216;waking care home residents and dive-bombing kids&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scotland&#8217;s nature body, NatureScot, provided \u00a320,000 to support the development of plans for Inverness and Nairn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Officials said the gull management plan would recognise the challenges posed by gulls and the birds&#8217; protected status.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The report listed problems including:<\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Reports of care home residents experiencing disturbed sleep due to early morning gull calls, particularly during the breeding season<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Primary schools stopping children from eating outdoors due to aggressive gull behaviour, and secondary school pupils being swooped on outside food shops<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Complaints from people about their neighbours feeding gulls and attracting large numbers of birds<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The plan includes awareness campaigns to discourage people from feeding gulls and new public bins that are harder for the birds to pull rubbish from.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Other ideas include using kites, flags and audio deterrents to put gulls off from nesting on rooftops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Scotland&#8217;s nature body, NatureScot, provided \u00a320,000 to support the development of plans for Inverness and Nairn.
