That was the hardest thing I\u2019ve done pretty much all my life \u2013 and I\u2019ve got to do that for another four days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hardest part was coming down Jacob\u2019s Ladder and that sounds ridiculous, because you think going down is going to be easy but my knees are so sore,\u201d Murs said of the stone steps in his hillside running route.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2.84581251.jpg\" alt=\"Murs fell off his bike at the start line\" data-title=\"Murs fell off his bike at the start line\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Peter Byrne\" data-usage-terms=\"\"  \/>Murs fell off his bike at the start line<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as I got to the bottom I could feel every operation in every step. I had to stop. It feels alright now but whether that will swell up overnight, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Murs had to cancel a major summer tour after undergoing knee surgery the year before, one of four operations he has had on the joint.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining why he has taken on such a tough challenge, he said: \u201cI hope people are watching it, backing it, getting behind it, donating and getting involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s driving me on every time I take a step, or if I feel something in my hamstring or if my calves hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Murs will only be informed about his route for the day before he sets off each morning, he will have \u201cno clue when he\u2019ll be scaling the steepest peaks, biking the most brutal uphill climbs or facing his long-held fear of deep water\u201d, organisers said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2.84581279.jpg\" alt=\"Comedian John Bishop and Olly Murs on bikes\" data-title=\"Soccer Aid for Unicef\u2019s 20th anniversary\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Peter Byrne\" data-usage-terms=\"\"  \/>Comedian John Bishop joins Olly Murs at the start of his challenge (Peter Byrne\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>Bishop, who cycled alongside Murs as he left Manchester, said: \u201cI\u2019m so proud of what he\u2019s doing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what he\u2019s going to go through and how hard this week is going to be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing the equivalent of 10 marathons over five days and not knowing what he\u2019s doing each day, that\u2019s going to be the thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murs first laced up his boots for Soccer Aid for Unicef in 2010 and has played seven times.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2.84436964.jpg\" alt=\"Olly Murs during training for the challenge\" data-title=\"Murs during training for the challenge\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Media\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Media\" data-credit=\"Unicef\" data-usage-terms=\"PICTURE DESK USE ONLY.
