Keir Starmer has taken aim at Nigel Farage<\/a>, labelling him a \u201cgrifter\u201d and a \u201cchancer\u201d over his claims about Brexit. <\/p>\n

On Monday, the prime minister delivered a major speech<\/a> addressing the disappointing local election<\/a> results Labour suffered last week. <\/p>\n

The results have ramped up pressure on Starmer and increased speculation about a potential leadership challenge in the Labour Party. <\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s speech was widely seen as an attempt from Sir Keir to see off any leadership challenge and reinvigorate his premiership. <\/p>\n

Starmer implies Reform is \u2018dark path\u2019 for UK<\/p>\n

The PM acknowledged he and his party had made mistakes since winning the 2024 general election, but said he was determined to prove his doubters wrong. <\/p>\n

Starmer vowed that Labour will \u201cface up to the big challenges\u201d facing the country and made reference to \u201cdangerous opponents.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an apparent reference to Reform UK, Starmer said Labour would \u201cnever be forgiven\u201d for inflicting chaos on Britain and said the country \u201cwill go down a very dark path\u201d if Labour doesn\u2019t get things right. <\/p>\n

\u2018Farage is not just a grifter, he\u2019s a chancer!\u2019<\/p>\n

Whilst Starmer didn\u2019t explicitly mention Reform, he did later take aim at their leader Nigel Farage. <\/p>\n

Before moving onto the subject of Europe, the prime minister said: \u201cI need to take a bit of a detour on this because I want to remind you what Nigel Farage said about Brexit. <\/p>\n

He went on to then highlight the falsehoods Farage had peddled about Brexit: \u201cHe said it would make us richer. Wrong. It made us poorer. He said it would reduce migration. Wrong. Migration went through the roof. He said it would make us more secure. Wrong again. It made us weaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe took Britain for a ride and, unlike the Tories [who] actually at least have to face up to it, he just fled the scene and now he\u2019ll talk about\u00a0<\/strong>almost anything other than the consequences of the one policy he actually delivered.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause he\u2019s not just a grifter, he is a chancer.\u201d<\/p>\n
