{"id":954363,"date":"2026-05-12T07:53:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:53:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/954363\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T07:53:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:53:21","slug":"situation-leeds-community-canvas-south-leeds-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/954363\/","title":{"rendered":"Situation Leeds: Community Canvas &#8211; South Leeds Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_6581.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><br \/>\n\t\tToday\u2019s focus on Situation Leeds takes us away from ceramic ears and into a world of painting.<\/p>\n<p>The work of Kate Jennings includes typography, painting, print and mark making to explore ideas of connection and self-expression.<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend of the 9th and 10th May worked solidly for two eight hour days on \u2018The Corner\u2019 Pocket Sculpture Park to create a 10m long canvas between the trees. \u00a0This will be in place for the duration of Situation Leeds 11-24 May.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-171180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_6556.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Over the next couple of weeks art will be popping up all over the city with the encouragement that you go out and find the beach beneath the streets, reclaim the city from the commercial graveyard that it has become and take part in a fortnight of free activity. At the mid-point of this we invite you to join us on \u2018The Corner\u2019 to come, grab some paint and a brush \u00a0and assist Kate with her canvas. You don\u2019t need to have had any experience of painting or drawing, everybody is invited to just come and make marks with us and be a part of this event. This project is about South Leeds as a community and the things that we can do together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-171181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_6583.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>About Situation Leeds<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally staged in 2005, Situation Leeds created a city-wide platform for artists to test ideas, occupy spaces and connect outside traditional structures, and its return in 2026 builds on that legacy while responding to the realities of the present moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">At its core, Situation Leeds 2026 is DIY, collaborative and open-ended. Rather than a top-down curated programme, it is formed through a growing network of artists, organisations and spaces who are shaping the festival together. This approach prioritises process over polish, supporting artists to develop and present new work in ways that are responsive, experimental and rooted in the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work will take place across arts venues, artist-led spaces and everyday locations, reflecting a commitment to art beyond traditional thresholds.
