{"id":954626,"date":"2026-05-12T10:49:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T10:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/954626\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T10:49:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T10:49:16","slug":"lorry-gets-stuck-in-hole-it-was-sent-to-fix-in-somerset-somerset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/954626\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorry gets stuck in hole it was sent to fix in Somerset | Somerset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A lorry has become stuck in a sinkhole on a rural road in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/somerset\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Somerset<\/a> after being sent to fix it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Contractors from a company called Stabilised Pavements were sent to fix holes on Butleigh Drove, near Walton, when the ground gave way, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/transport\/article\/truck-stuck-pothole-road-kfx5jzqlp\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Times reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The lorry was left stuck at a near 45-degree angle, forcing the workers to abandon it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Lucy Trimmell, an opposition councillor in Somerset, told the Times the council\u2019s approach to road repairs was like \u201ctrying to darn a pair of fishnet tights\u201d and the road network was \u201crapidly deteriorating\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Richard Wilkins, the portfolio holder for transport and waste services, said council contractors had been working to fix the damage caused by Storm Chandra in January, as well as other weather events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: \u201cAs with other parts of the country, the recent cycle of wet and freezing conditions has led to a sudden deterioration in many roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A council spokesperson said the lorry was due to be recovered.  Photograph: Jason Bryant\/BNPS<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A spokesperson for Somerset council said: \u201cPlanned highway works are taking place on Butleigh Moor Drove (also known as Butleigh Drove) near Walton, and these works are being delivered by contractors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe road is constructed on peat and has experienced significant movement and rutting. Issues of this nature can occasionally arise when carrying out works in these conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cA lorry involved in the works is due to be recovered.
