A man accused of murder in Bristol has been remanded in custody until next month after his first hearing at Bristol Crown Court this morning (Tuesday, May 12).<\/p>\n
The case against Nigel Lubban was first heard by magistrates on Monday (May 11), who sent it to the Crown Court, where a judge remanded him in custody to appear again in June.<\/p>\n
Lubban, 50, is charged with a single count of murder following the discovery of a man’s body on a rooftop garden of a block of flats in Redcliffe last week.<\/p>\n
Anthony ‘Tony’ Clemmings was found dead on the morning of Tuesday, May 5, on the rooftop terrace of the flats in Redcliff Street, and Lubban, who is of no fixed abode, was arrested in the West Midlands later in the week.<\/p>\n
Lubban was not asked to make a plea to the charge, and the judge at Bristol Crown Court adjourned the case for a plea and pre-trial hearing to be held on June 12, although a trial is not expected to take place this year.<\/p>\n
Announcing the charge of murder over the weekend, DCI Laura Miller, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a murder charge against Nigel Lubban.<\/p>\n
