{"id":955173,"date":"2026-05-12T16:33:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T16:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/955173\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T16:33:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T16:33:19","slug":"dont-miss-mars-saturn-and-the-moon-form-a-cosmic-triangle-before-dawn-on-may-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/955173\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t miss Mars, Saturn and the moon form a cosmic triangle before dawn on May 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"elk-ce873b30-6355-4b0c-a3cc-7d53f2b18e8d\">Look to the eastern sky in the hour preceding dawn on May 14 to catch a rare sight, as the moon, Saturn and Mars form a cosmic triangle in the glow of the rising sun, while the ice giant Neptune lurks unseen nearby.<\/p>\n<p>The 8%-lit waning crescent <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moon<\/a> will sit low on the eastern horizon as dawn&#8217;s glow creeps into the sky. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/48-saturn-the-solar-systems-major-ring-bearer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saturn<\/a> will appear as a bright star-like object to the moon&#8217;s lower right, while the reddish glow of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/solar-system\/mars\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/solar-system\/mars\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-redirect=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/47-mars-the-red-planet-fourth-planet-from-the-sun.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronomy\/solar-system\/mars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mars<\/a> shines lower still to the left of the pair.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-ce873b30-6355-4b0c-a3cc-7d53f2b18e8d-2\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/41-neptune-the-other-blue-planet-in-our-solar-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/41-neptune-the-other-blue-planet-in-our-solar-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/41-neptune-the-other-blue-planet-in-our-solar-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neptune<\/a> will also be present roughly 10 degrees to the right of the thin lunar crescent \u2014 roughly the width of a clenched fist held at arm&#8217;s length against the sky \u2014 but will be far too dim to spot with the unaided eye.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-6a3c2323-1b3b-4b9a-913a-f9d5ecd48183\">Mars, Saturn and the moon will all be less than 20 degrees above the horizon at sunrise, so be sure to find a location with a clear view to the east to see them before they&#8217;re swallowed in the golden light of dawn.<\/p>\n<p>While the cosmic trio will make for a spectacular naked eye target, we advise against any attempt to view them with a telescope owing to their proximity to the rising sun. Remember, pointing a telescope or binoculars at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the sun<\/a> can result in permanent and immediate loss
