A\u00a0brand new\u00a0degree,\u00a0designed to equip\u00a0learners\u00a0with the future-ready skills needed to thrive\u00a0in\u00a0FinTech,\u00a0one of the fastest-growing tech (and finance) sectors, both in the UK and globally will launch in September 2026 at University Centre Leeds.<\/p>\n

A 2025 report <\/a>from Whitecap Consulting found that fintech is adding \u00a35bn to the North of England economy every year, and estimated that this will rise to \u00a36bn per annum by 2030. In Leeds alone, meanwhile, a 2023 report<\/a> from the same source suggested that the sector had doubled in three years to contribute more than \u00a3700m per year to the regional economy.<\/p>\n

Open for applications now, BSc (Hons) Financial Technology is a\u00a0dynamic three-year programme which\u00a0blends core principles of finance and accounting with\u00a0cutting-edge\u00a0training in programming, data analysis, and software development. Learners will\u00a0gain the technical expertise\u00a0and practical experience\u00a0employers\u00a0demand;\u00a0opening doors to roles in banking, financial services, start-ups, and beyond.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Luminate Education Group, of which University Centre Leeds is a member,\u00a0commissioned\u00a0a report in 2024\u00a0setting out\u00a0how colleges can play a leading role in supporting West Yorkshire\u2019s flourishing\u00a0Financial and\u00a0Professional\u00a0Services\u00a0(FPS)\u00a0industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The FPS Skills Blueprint\u00a0highlights that while West Yorkshire institutions offer over 280 courses in\u00a0professional services, college graduates\u00a0remain\u00a0underrepresented in FPS recruitment pipelines.<\/p>\n

Innovative partnerships\u00a0like\u00a0the one between\u00a0Luminate Education Group and FinTech North\u00a0are helping to strengthen employer engagement, better align provision with market needs, and highlight FinTech as a growth area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Becky Fores, dean of higher education at University Centre Leeds, said:\u00a0\u201cDriven by the growth of financial services in the region, Leeds is fast becoming a FinTech hub. Our\u00a0new Financial Technology course will bridge the gap between computing and financial services, supporting students\u2019 next steps by embedding key regulatory knowledge within the programme and therefore aiding the transition into employment in this vibrant sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0BSc (Hons) Financial Technology\u00a0course is ideal for those looking to move into a fast-paced industry in financial and accounting technology. Through hands-on practical learning,\u00a0learners will gain a deeper understanding of financial markets and develop\u00a0their\u00a0proficiency\u00a0in emerging technologies; completing their studies in\u00a0purpose-built computer suites\u00a0and working\u00a0with\u00a0cutting-edge\u00a0platforms and software.<\/p>\n
