The result saw Mrs Morgan become the first sitting First Minister to lose their seat in an election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/plaid-cymru\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Plaid Cymru<\/a> became the biggest party in the Senedd with 43 seats while Reform UK came in second with 34. <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Labour<\/a> fell to third with nine elected representatives, Mrs Morgan was one of a number of incumbent Labour members who failed to win their seats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">On Tuesday, the Senedd sat for the first time since the election and voted for Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth to become Wales&#8217; First Minister. <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/politics\/live-wales-first-minister-vote-33931777\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">More on that here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Shortly after the meeting of the Senedd, Mrs Morgan spoke out for the first time since she <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/politics\/the-people-wales-rejected-labour-33915607\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">resigned as leader of Welsh Labour moments after she lost her seat.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She described being First Minister and MS for Mid and West Wales as the &#8220;greatest honour&#8221; of her life and sent her well wishes to the new Welsh Government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She added that she is &#8220;immensely proud&#8221; of the work achieved by the administrations she served in. <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=8cdecf69-0a19-43af-8d50-ed4e2c52d045&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The former first minister didn&#8217;t make any reference to Labour&#8217;s seismic electoral defeat, which saw the party&#8217;s century-long dominance in Welsh elections come to an end. Mrs Morgan said that she wouldn&#8217;t be making any further comment at this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The full statement read: &#8220;It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as First Minister of Wales and to represent the people of Mid and West Wales in the Senedd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Public service is never about one person. I will not be making any further comment at this time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In her resignation speech made on stage at Ysgol Bro Teifi in Llandysul on Friday after it was confirmed she had failed to be re-elected in the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/ceredigion\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Ceredigion<\/a> Penfro seat, she admitted that &#8220;the people of Wales rejected Labour&#8221;.
