A police officer has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Manchester.<\/p>\n
Emergency services are on the scene following reports of a stabbing close to Oxford<\/a> Road, near Manchester<\/a> city centre.<\/p>\n There is a large police scene outside Denmark<\/a> Road Sports Centre, behind the Whitworth Art Gallery.<\/p>\n Denmark Road has been cordoned off by officers from Greater Manchester Police<\/a>, as has nearby Cecil Street.<\/p>\n Images from the area show at least eight cop cars in attendance close to the entrance of the sports complex.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a><\/strong> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> <\/strong>alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n An eyewitness has told the Manchester Evening News a police officer was the victim of an attack.<\/p>\n Footage taken shortly after the attack shows police officers rushing to apprehend an individual close to the Denmark Road Sports Centre entrance.<\/p>\n Greater Manchester Police has since confirmed a man has been arrested. He remains in custody for questioning.<\/p>\n The officer\u2019s injuries are non-life threatening, and they will attend hospital for treatment. <\/p>\n An extensive cordon remains in place ourside Denmark Road Sports Centre.<\/p>\n A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: \u2018At around 4.55pm we were called to reports of a man brandishing a knife on Demark Road in Manchester. <\/p>\n \u2018Police attended the scene an officer was assaulted. A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs.He remains in custody for questioning.\u2019<\/p>\n Eyewitness Simon Bailey said: \u2018The injured officer was pulled away and got treated.<\/p>\n \u2018There were about 30 officers there and they cordoned off the road.<\/p>\n \u2018I was walking home from work and I heard sirens and police cars going around the corner.<\/p>\n \u2018When I got there behind them, I saw loads of officers on top of a young guy.<\/p>\n \u2018One of the officers was led away by colleagues and he had a large cut to his left cheek and was bleeding. It looked like he had been slashed with a knife.\u2019<\/p>\n GMP said a man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a bladed article and possession of Class B drugs.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow
