{"id":955710,"date":"2026-05-12T22:18:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T22:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/955710\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T22:18:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T22:18:17","slug":"cumbrian-swimmers-named-in-englands-commonwealth-games-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/955710\/","title":{"rendered":"Cumbrian swimmers named in England&#8217;s Commonwealth Games squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two Cumbrian swimming stars have been named in England&#8217;s squad for this summer&#8217;s Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Luke Greenbank and Brooklyn Hale are among 42 athletes chosen to represent Team England in the swimming and para swimming events in Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Greenbank, 28, and 15-year-old para swimmer Hale, will target success at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Backstroke specialist Greenbank has won medals in the previous two Commonwealth Games, the 28-year-old from Cockermouth taking silver in the 4x100m medley in 2018 and upgrading that to gold in the same event in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Wigton teenager Hale, meanwhile, is a rising para swimming star who last month won a bronze medal in the women\u2019s 400m freestyle para final at the GB Aquatics Championships in London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In April she was also selected to make debut on an Aquatics GB senior team in the World Para Swimming European Championships\u00a0in September &#8211; and selection for the Commonwealth Games is another major landmark in her fledgling career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Greenbank started out at Cockermouth Swimming Club &#8211; where Hale is also a member.
