Liverpool made wholesale changes to their squad in the 2025 summer transfer window, including spending \u00a3450m on new signings and selling Luis Diaz.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2025\/26, the Reds have lacked real pace out wide, having to rely on 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha to inject any sort of spark into their attacks.<\/p>\n

But things could have been different had Diaz<\/a>, who is now thriving at Bayern Munich and has earned praise from Alan Shearer, stayed at Liverpool<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Now on the books of Bayern, the South American has dominated in Germany alongside Harry Kane and Michael Olise.<\/p>\n

He has scored 26 and assisted 21 in 49 matches this season, the most goal contributions in a single season of his senior career.<\/p>\n

In turn, speaking on The Rest Is Football<\/a> this week, Shearer praised Diaz for his clear improvement in the last year.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cLuis Diaz is number eight, Liverpool to Bayern, for 65.5 million. And I watched him the other night in that stadium, Luis Diaz, that fantastic game, probably one of the best ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think he\u2019s actually getting better. Brilliant he was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Obviously, it may be far-fetched to suggest that Diaz would have come close to reaching those impressive numbers had he remained in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

But Liverpool, who have had to use Cody Gakpo off the left in most games this season, would have benefited greatly from him staying.<\/p>\n

And while Slot<\/a> has, and rightly so, received a lot of criticism this season, the Dutchman reportedly did not want to sell the Colombian.<\/p>\n

A report back in November 2025 actually claimed that the coach wanted Diaz to be given a new contract. However, Richard Hughes overruled the Liverpool manager<\/a> as he did not see the value in offering the forward fresh terms amid interest from Bayern.<\/p>\n

The Merseyside outfit are now looking to sign a new winger in the summer of 2026<\/a>, but they perhaps would not need to if Slot had got his way.<\/p>\n
