The NEC <\/strong>is set to launch a programme of family attractions this summer, combining major ticketed experiences with a new free outdoor space <\/strong>designed to give families a full day out in one place.<\/p>\n

Having opened at the weekend (Saturday, May 9) until the end of August, NEC Lakeside <\/strong>offers a range of free activities, including an outdoor cinema <\/strong>with regular screenings, a children\u2019s play area<\/strong>, activity trail <\/strong>and picnic seating<\/strong> alongside a selection of food and drink vendors.<\/p>\n

Located at the heart of the NEC Campus<\/strong>, the space has been created to give families somewhere to relax and spend time together throughout the day, whether visiting one of the venue\u2019s attractions or simply looking for a free day out during the school holidays<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re bringing together an incredible range of attractions for families and, as part of our NEC Built for your Summer programme, creating even more reasons to visit across the season,\u201d said Deputy CEO of the NEC,\u202fSarah\u202fHarvey. \u201cWith the addition of NEC Lakeside, we\u2019re also able to offer a free space where people can spend time together and make the most of their visit.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s on at the NEC this summer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The launch of NEC Lakside coincides with some major attractions at the NEC<\/strong>, bringing together several family experiences under one roof. This includes the opening of Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition<\/strong><\/a> (on June 19.<\/p>\n

This is already being described as a \u201cportal to Ancient Egypt<\/strong>\u201c, thanks to a gripping combination of virtual reality, metaverse, immersive storytelling, and authentic artefacts<\/strong>. The\u00a090-minute experience <\/strong>will let you venture into a recreated tomb and explore the Valley of Kings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On top of that, the NEC is home to everything from the record-breaking Titanic Exhibition<\/strong><\/a> to the immersive Peppa Pig Space Adventure<\/strong><\/a> and the world\u2019s first Gladiators Experience<\/strong><\/a>\u2014complete with iconic challenges, nostalgic memorabilia, and exclusive merchandise.<\/p>\n
