However, it is expected to form part of the government\u2019s next phase of post-Brexit financial services reform, with possible implications for authorisations, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanker.com\/provision\/35bb61d8-a62c-5389-ab9b-692e4f711c03\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Senior Managers and Certification Regime<\/a>, the Financial Ombudsman Service and the wider regulatory architecture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s prudential regulator also used a speech to defend the continuing need for close, judgment-based bank supervision. Sam Woods, deputy governor of the Bank of England and chief executive of the Prudential Regulation Authority, argued that banks\u2019 role in providing deposits, payments and credit justifies more intensive and continuous supervision than many other sectors. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/speech\/2026\/may\/sam-woods-speech-at-the-henry-thornton-lecture-bayes-business-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">speech<\/a> is a signal of the PRA\u2019s supervisory philosophy, particularly around governance, risk management, business models and senior manager accountability.<\/p>\n<p>This is a premium article.
