{"id":957895,"date":"2026-05-13T21:39:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T21:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/957895\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T21:39:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T21:39:18","slug":"baby-born-on-attenboroughs-100th-birthday-named-after-environmentalist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/957895\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby born on Attenborough&#8217;s 100th birthday named after environmentalist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A baby born just before midnight on Sir David Attenborough&#8217;s 100th birthday has been named after the legendary broadcaster and environmentalist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ambrose Attenborough Whyte was born at 23:58 BST on 8 May weighing 7lb 5oz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Proud parents Stephen Whyte, 35, and Lauren Evans, 27, from Powys, said they wanted to honour the conservationist in their own way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Whyte said Sir David has been present in both their lives for as &#8220;long as they can remember&#8221;, and they have a &#8220;great amount of respect for him&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Lauren Evans in a hospital bed holding Ambrose. She is looking down at him. \" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d70b5a30691616e1e99fadda77d2f888.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Lauren said she was determined for Ambrose to be born on 8 May [Stephen Whyte]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He said when the couple were younger they would watch Attenborough documentaries, helping to foster their &#8220;love for animals&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The couple had an appointment for Evans to be induced on 7 May, and it was only when labour started that she realised the baby could be born on Sir David&#8217;s birthday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;There had been things going on in some of the local schools. Either people picking up litter and being really active in the community to celebrate his 100th birthday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I was like, &#8216;oh, it would be really nice if he was born on the same day as David Attenborough&#8217;s birthday&#8217;,&#8221; Evans said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Whyte said the couple had another middle name planned but decided &#8220;on the cuff&#8221; to change it to Attenborough.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"David Attenborough\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"841\" height=\"473\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d5cacf5c8ec96fad55c31fa1d9a02719.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Attenborough joined the BBC in 1952 and had a stint as controller of BBC Two [Getty Images]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After being taken into theatre, the couple told medical staff of their plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;They said, &#8216;we&#8217;ll see what we can do&#8217;,&#8221; said Whyte.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Whyte said he hopes that, like them, their son grows up with Sir David as an inspiration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He&#8217;ll certainly grow up watching nature documentaries.
