\n\tJane Schoenbrun<\/a>\u2019s Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma<\/a> got one of the first extended standing ovations of this year\u2019s Cannes<\/a> Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tScreening at the 1,068-seat Debussy Theatre on Wednesday night to open the festival\u2019s Un Certain Regard section, the psychedelic tribute to the slasher-horror cycle of the early \u201980s had the audience clapping for nine minutes (yes, it was that long), some of which occurred as star Hannah Einbinder<\/a> thanked the cast and crew over a three-minute stretch.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOk, what should we do now?\u201d said Einbinder before launching into a generous list of thank-yous.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe campy, blood squirting comedy follows a queer filmmaker (played by Einbinder) who in making a slasher franchise sequel becomes obsessed with casting the original film\u2019s \u201cfinal girl\u201d (Gillian Anderson<\/a>). Psychological and sexual chaos ensues.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his review, Deadline\u2019s Damon Wise called<\/a> the film, which also stars SNL\u2018s Sarah Sherman, an \u201cinstant midnight-movie classic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMubi is handling its theatrical release.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the introduction, Schoenbrun said: \u201cThere\u2019s this song by Drake called \u2018Started From the Bottom,\u2019 and it goes, \u2018Started from the bottom, now we\u2019re here.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThey added, \u201cI guess I wanted to talk about joy. Because this was the most joyful experience of my life, making this movie.\u201d Schoenbrun\u2019s previous movie was the Sundance 2024 feature I Saw the TV Glow, the A24 film that earned five Independent Spirit Award nominations.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was the first time I directed a film where I felt free in my whole self and I was just in love in making it. I was in love with the language of cinema, I was in love with the joy of working with collaborators who care so deeply and can do amazing things that I find so beautiful that I could never imagine or do myself. And we just had it on this film,\u201d beamed Schoenbrun.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnderson told the crowd, \u201cThis is my first time in Cannes with a film, after a few 100 years of being in the industry, and I\u2019m so honored to be here with this particular film.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m so proud of it, and I\u2019m proud of what [Jane] created with all of the extraordinary team.
