{"id":957953,"date":"2026-05-13T22:16:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T22:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/957953\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T22:16:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T22:16:22","slug":"kingstanding-mcdonalds-fined-for-mouse-infestation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/957953\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingstanding McDonald&#8217;s fined for mouse infestation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Birmingham magistrates heard there had been incidents of mouse activity at the restaurant on occasions in the two weeks prior to the inspection, including one caught in a trap days before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But the court also heard two subsequent unannounced visits by inspectors had  since resulted in the McDonald&#8217;s being awarded a five-star food hygiene rating \u2013 the highest possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At a sentencing hearing on Wednesday, the court heard the franchisee had made major changes at Kingstanding and had employed a new manager to oversee it and another restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The company pleaded guilty in April to one charge of breaching the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Henry Skudra, prosecuting, said: &#8220;A customer said they were ordering food and a small mouse was spotted running from the counter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Employees were said to be unfazed and treated the incident as a regular occurrence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added &#8220;unsafe food&#8221; was being sold and there was &#8220;an imminent risk of injury to health&#8221;, leading to the restaurant&#8217;s closure under an emergency prohibition notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The restaurant was allowed to reopen the next day after required works were carried out. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Birmingham magistrates heard there had been incidents of mouse activity at the restaurant on occasions in the two&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":957954,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7820],"tags":[855,748,393,4884,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-957953","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-birmingham","8":"tag-birmingham","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/116569583303943846","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/957953","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=957953"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/957953\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/957954"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=957953"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=957953"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=957953"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
