It\u2019s been a long time coming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to hear it\u2019s going to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work<\/a> done to it now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cThey were all bought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">houses<\/a>. It was beautiful, they all had their blinds and that, they all took pride in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">house<\/a> and it was lovely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now it\u2019s just an eyesore. I\u2019ve complained so many times and nothing\u2019s been happening, but now it\u2019s happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Housing convenor Ruairi Kelly, SNP, said: \u201cWith funding from the Scottish Government for acquisitions we will be supporting NG Homes with up to \u00a32.7 million to bring 23 flats in these traditional tenement buildings back into use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only will this provide much needed housing in the area, it will also address the dereliction that has blighted this stretch of street for years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reform councillor Audrey Dempsey blasted it as \u201cunacceptable\u201d for homes to be falling into disrepair while local councillor Robert Mooney said the condition of the buildings has been a worry.<\/p>\n<p>The councillor added: \u201cThe buildings have been a concern for some time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe MSP Paul Sweeney has been lobbying to try and get funding to save it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Dempsey \u2013 who had been campaigning in the area as part of a Holyrood election bid \u2013 said: \u201cIn the middle of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/housing-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">housing crisis<\/a>, it is simply unacceptable that buildings, homes and properties capable of being lived in are sitting empty and falling into disrepair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when we are spending close to \u00a355 million of taxpayers\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money<\/a> every 10 months on temporary accommodation like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/hotels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hotels<\/a> and B&amp;Bs, this approach is not just inefficient, it is unsustainable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResponsibility does not sit with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/councils\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">councils<\/a> alone. Every housing association and social landlord has a duty to ensure their properties are brought up to standard and used to house people in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Labour councillor Fiona Higgins said: \u201cI\u2019m pleased to see money being invested in these buildings so they can be brought back into use. We need to bring all buildings back into use to meet the housing needs of the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/glasgow-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow City Council<\/a> spokesman said: \u201cThe three tenement buildings in 106, 110 and 116 Stonyhurst Street (all in NG Homes ownership \u2013 23 flats) are to be the subject of comprehensive repairs.
