{"id":958617,"date":"2026-05-14T05:34:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T05:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/958617\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T05:34:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T05:34:16","slug":"analogue-3ds-latest-update-makes-your-carts-look-colourful-in-more-ways-than-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/958617\/","title":{"rendered":"Analogue 3D&#8217;s Latest Update Makes Your Carts Look Colourful In More Ways Than One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Analogue 3D&#039;s Latest Update Makes Your Carts Look More Colourful In More Ways Than One 1\" href=\"https:\/\/images.timeextension.com\/ca49e2cf2e33d\/analogue-3ds-latest-update-makes-your-carts-look-more-colourful-in-more-ways-than-one-1.large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/analogue-3ds-latest-update-makes-your-carts-look-more-colourful-in-more-ways-than-one-1.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"515\" alt=\"Analogue 3D's Latest Update Makes Your Carts Look More Colourful In More Ways Than One 1\"\/><\/a> Image: Nintendo<\/p>\n<p>If you consider yourself to be a seasoned collector of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/guides\/best-n64-games-of-all-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N64<\/a> games, then you&#8217;ll be aware that not all of them came on the same grey plastic cartridges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/n64\/donkey_kong_64\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donkey Kong 64<\/a>, for example, came on a yellow cartridge in the West, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/n64\/legend_of_zelda_majoras_mask\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zelda: Majora&#8217;s Mask<\/a> came on a gold one.<\/p>\n<p>The latest update for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/reviews\/analogue-3d-the-ultimate-way-to-play-nintendo-64\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Analogue 3D<\/a> embraces this quirk by allowing you to change the colour of the cartridges as they&#8217;re displayed in the console&#8217;s menu.<\/p>\n<p>As highlighted by <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/hardware\/retro\/the-newest-analogue-3d-update-fuels-my-dorky-desire-for-accurate-library-cartridge-colors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Games Radar<\/a>, the new <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.analogue.co\/support\/3d\/firmware\/1.2.6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1.2.6 update<\/a> gives the option for carts to be &#8220;Grey \/ Red \/ Green \/ Blue \/ Yellow \/ Gold \/ Black \/ Purple \/ Pink&#8221;, with colours &#8220;set by default based on their release&#8221;, which can vary from region to region (the aforementioned Donkey Kong 64 comes on a grey cart in Japan, for example, as does Majora&#8217;s Mask).<\/p>\n<p>Another update actually relates to the <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.analogue.co\/support\/3d\/guide\/3dos#hdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advanced HDR<\/a> feature, which was enabled in last month&#8217;s 1.2.5 update.<\/p>\n<p>Analogue has now clarified in more detail what this feature does. &#8220;HDR (High Dynamic Range) enhances image quality and Original Display Modes by providing a wider range of colours, brighter details, and deeper blacks,&#8221; it says. &#8220;HDR is automatically enabled for compatible displays. Analogue Original Display Modes take full advantage of HDR10.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, SD card stability has been improved, as has Progressive Output to fix blinking or flickering screens in certain games, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/n64\/resident_evil_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resident Evil 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The full patch notes, taken from Analogue&#8217;s site, are reproduced below.<\/p>\n<p>General<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarification on <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.analogue.co\/support\/3d\/guide\/3dos#hdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advanced HDR<\/a>.
