{"id":95865,"date":"2025-05-12T17:18:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T17:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/95865\/"},"modified":"2025-05-12T17:18:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T17:18:10","slug":"perplexity-ai-wrapping-500-million-raise-at-14-billion-valuation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/95865\/","title":{"rendered":"Perplexity AI wrapping $500 million raise at $14 billion valuation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/24\/perplexity-ai-enters-the-smartphone-market-with-motorola-partnership.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Perplexity AI<\/a> is in late-stage talks to raise $500 million at a $14 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/03\/20\/perplexity-in-talks-to-double-valuation-to-18-billion-via-new-funding.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">valuation<\/a>, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to CNBC Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Accel, the Palo Alto-based venture capital firm, will lead the round, according to the source, who spoke anonymously because the round is not yet finalized. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai-startup-perplexitys-valuation-surges-to-14-billion-in-fresh-funding-round-26124482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> first reported on the late-stage numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The funding is on the lower end of Perplexity&#8217;s planned raise, which CNBC reported in March. During those early-stage talks, Perplexity was looking to raise between $500 million and $1 billion in funding at an $18 billion post-money valuation, per a source familiar.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/ai-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a> search engine company competes against the likes of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft<\/a>-backed OpenAI. Its valuation in December was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/11\/05\/perplexity-ai-nears-500-million-funding-round-at-9-billion-valuation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$9 billion<\/a>, triple its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/technology\/softbank-to-back-ai-startup-perplexity-at-3-billion-dollar-valuation-19434650.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$3 billion<\/a>\u00a0valuation in June 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC reporting on AI<\/p>\n<p>Perplexity has just under $100 million in annual recurring revenue, or ARR, the source told CNBC in March.<\/p>\n<p>Perplexity has been in the middle of the generative AI boom that began in late 2022 with the launch of OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT, and it&#8217;s betting big on its upcoming AI agent web browser, called Comet.
