<\/p>\nHedge fund boss Crispin Odey has settled a handful of personal injury claims brought by women claiming sexual assault.<\/p>\n
Odey bought an end to the claims ahead of a London trial due to start next month, according to a lawyer for the claimants. Another high profile lawsuit for Odey would have aired further details of his alleged assaults spanning decades, while he was at the helm of Odey Asset Management.<\/p>\n
One of the women claimed she was groped at his mansion where he had invited her along with others for a shooting party just months after he was acquitted in 2021 of sexual assault.<\/p>\n
Odey has consistently denied all the allegations against him. He\u2019s is also waiting the outcome of the appeal against his lifetime ban from UK finance after a bruising hearings earlier this year. The Financial Conduct Authority was accused by Odey of pursuing an \u201cagenda\u201d to root out non-financial misconduct and sought a \u201ctotemic\u201d case to take on.<\/p>\n
The hedge fund boss faced at least 46 allegations of inappropriate conduct over a 17-year period at Odey Asset Management according to an internal report conducted by an outside law firm. The accusations ranged in seriousness from an allegation of sexual assault in 2005 to an incident in which Odey forced a receptionist to try on a skirt and show it to him \u201costensibly to see if it would fit his daughter,\u201d the FCA said in a legal filing released in February.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy clients were seeking some form of accountability for the damage they have suffered, which has had devastating consequences,\u201d Claire Glasgow, a lawyer representing two of the claimants, said.<\/p>\n
Odey Asset Management was plunged into turmoil after the Financial Times published multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault by Odey, who founded the firm in 1991 and earned a reputation for making contrarian bets that put him among some of Britain\u2019s richest hedge fund investors.<\/p>\n
Separately, Odey dropped a defamation claim with the FT last month over its coverage of the scandal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has come as no surprise that Odey has decided to abandon his fight against our civil claims for sexual assault against him and seek settlement,\u201d one of the claimants said in a statement sent to Bloomberg. \u201cI think this settlement speaks volumes to what we, the claimants, have always been 100% clear on and have been brave enough to stand up and fight for: the simple strength of the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Representatives for Odey didn\u2019t immediately return emails seeking comment.<\/p>\n
