He is also, Margarita notes, a \u2018great photographer\u2019, who has always been keen to \u2018carry on Grandpa\u2019s love of photography with Charles and me. He [has always] encouraged us to take photos.\u2019 The three kept in contact over lockdown by sending each other a photo a day of \u2018anything. Just weird and random things [that we] found interesting. It became a little bit competitive.\u2019<\/p>\n
Brother Charles, born in 1999, went to Eton and Loughborough University<\/a> and is now a musician. \u2018He is very into his orchestral music. He is self-taught [and he] can sing, play the piano and the guitar. It\u2019s wonderful,\u2019 says Margarita. \u2018Somehow he combines it all together \u2013 including online choirs \u2013 on his laptop into one piece of music.\u2019 Serena is an artist too: a sculptor. \u2018She does animals<\/a>,\u2019 says Margarita. \u2018She won\u2019t sell them, but they are really nice things to give. She\u2019s always had a passion for art<\/a>.\u2019 After all, Serena, who grew up in Chelsea<\/a>, Monaco<\/a> and Ireland, went to art school in Florence<\/a> before joining Sotheby\u2019s and then Armani, before she married David.<\/p>\n Margarita\u2019s parents \u2013 who announced their \u2018amicable\u2019 divorce in 2020 \u2013 met when her Irish grandfather, the 12th Earl of Harrington, asked David to design furniture for him. Their 1993 wedding at St Margaret\u2019s Westminster was a stellar affair attended by 650 guests, including Elton John, the Aga Khan and King Constantine II<\/a> of Greece, alongside the British Royal Family. They settled in London, where Margarita spent her early life, with weekends in Gloucestershire<\/a> on the Bamfords\u2019 Daylesford estate, and she has always remained close to her maternal grandparents \u2013 the earl and his equestrian ex-wife, Virginia Freeman-Jackson. \u2018My grandmother was a very natural, very talented rider,\u2019 she says. \u2018Anyone is thrown on a horse in Ireland at the age of zero.\u2019<\/p>\n Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones attended Garden House, the good-manners prep<\/a> school near the family home in Chelsea, then the leading Catholic boarding school St Mary\u2019s Ascot<\/a>, but it didn\u2019t suit her. She moved to Tudor Hall at the end of Year Nine. \u2018St Mary\u2019s Ascot wasn\u2019t very me,\u2019 she says. \u2018It\u2019s one of those schools<\/a> where you mould to it rather than it moulds to you, whereas Tudor Hall was the opposite. It was the most fun. You can really become your own person there.
