Tributes have poured in for a newlywed father who tragically lost his life after falling from a rooftop bar.<\/p>\n

Richard Ayling, 40, died in hospital following a fall from several storeys at Herman and Cooper in Birmingham city centre on May 3. Mr Ayling died the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham<\/a>, surrounded by his devastated family.<\/p>\n

An inquest into the former serviceman’s death was opened this week. At Birmingham Coroner’s Court, the coroner characterised his death as “violent and unnatural”. The hearing has been postponed until August 10.<\/p>\n

The venue issued a statement on Tuesday, May 5, saying it was ‘deeply saddened’ by the incident, which it acknowledged had taken place on its property.<\/p>\n

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time,” it stated.<\/p>\n

Mr Ayling, a maintenance engineer originally from Germany, had been living in Newhall near Swadlincote with his wife Amy, reports Derbyshire Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heartfelt tributes have since been paid to the father-of-three, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to support his family. The page described his death as a “sudden and devastating loss”.<\/p>\n

“His loss has left a hole in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard was, above all else, a family man.”<\/p>\n

The fundraising appeal noted that Mr Ayling had recently wed his “beloved wife Amy”. The pair were creating a future together with their three children Ronnie, Ellie and Logan.<\/p>\n

“He was a proud and devoted dad, and his love for his family was at the centre of everything he did,” the tribute continued. Richard dedicated himself to serving and protecting others.”<\/p>\n

With more than two decades working in the rail industry, Mr Ayling also served his community as a part-time firefighter, where “he gave his time and courage to keep his community safe.”<\/p>\n

The tribute added: “He was the kind of person who showed up for others, whether on the job or in everyday life.”<\/p>\n

Organised by Duncan Watson, the fundraising campaign aims to provide support for Amy and the children through this incredibly challenging period, helping to cover funeral expenses.<\/p>\n

Any additional contributions raised will go towards something lasting in Mr Ayling’s honour, such as a plaque or bench.<\/p>\n
