The book saw Harry hit out at his father King Charles and brother Prince William, while also spilling some family secrets.

In one part of Spare, the 41-year-old even revealed some royal family superstitions, which seemed to come in handy when he and Meghan Markle were trying to get pregnant with their first child.

Harry explained how he and Meghan, 44, “didn’t want to wait” to have kids and said, “We both wanted to start a family straightaway,” as he said becoming parents had “always been our main priority.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent time with King Charles at the Castle of Mey in Scotland in the summer of 2018, not long after their wedding, where the monarch told them stories of “selkies” who grant wishes.

The couple had been spending some time with King Charles (Image: Getty)

Writing about the trip in Spare, Harry recalled, “‘Scottish mermaids,’ he said. ‘They took the form of seals and cruised along the shore outside the castle, within a stone’s throw of where we were sitting. So, when you see a seal,’ he advised, ‘you never can tell… Sing to it. They often sing back.'”

The Duke of Sussex admitted he initially dismissed his father’s story as a “fairytale” before they eventually tried it out for themselves.

After spotting seals in the waters off the Scottish coast, Harry began to serenade them, but they only responded when “magic” Meghan joined in with her husband.

Harry even decided to jump into the water to be with the seals.

He penned, “A seal opera. Silly superstition, maybe, but I didn’t care. I counted it a good omen. I took off my clothes, jumped into the water, swam to them. Later, Pa’s Aussie chef was horrified.

“He told us that this had been a supremely bad idea, more ill-advised than diving heedlessly into the darkest water of the Okavango. ‘This part of the Scottish coast was teeming with killer whales,’ the chef said, ‘And singing to seals was like calling them to their blood-soaked deaths.'”

Despite the horrified reaction from Charles’ staff, the seal singing seemed to work. Not long after they returned home to Nottingham Cottage, Meghan took a pregnancy test and it came back postive. Harry said, “I thought, ‘Thank you, selkies’.”

Meghan gave birth to their first child, Prince Archie, on May 6, 2019. The couple later welcomed daughter Princess Lilibet.

]]>

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a strange superstition (Image: Getty) Prince Harry admitted he left royal staffers…

[7708
7719,1760,1281,447,532,5105,7710,519,448,268550
0":"post-961391","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-royals","8":"tag-duke-of-sussex","9":"tag-king-charles","10":"tag-meghan-markle","11":"tag-prince-harry","12":"tag-prince-william","13":"tag-royal","14":"tag-royal-families","15":"tag-royal-family","16":"tag-royals","17":"tag-superstition
["GET
