From<a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/recipes\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\"> toad in the hole<\/a> to the classic sausage sandwich, they make for a satisfying option at any mealtime. If you&#8217;re searching for the very finest on offer, you&#8217;re in luck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Consumer group <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.which.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Which? <\/a>conducted a blind taste test of 10 supermarket own-label sausages, alongside The Jolly Hog and Porky Whites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The test saw 60 participants rate the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/how-to-cook-sausages-correctly-33927512\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">sausages<\/a> on flavour, texture and aroma in a bid to crown the ultimate banger. Three &#8220;brilliant&#8221; sausages claimed the consumer group&#8217;s Best Buy accolade \u2014 and the best part is, they&#8217;re all own-brand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/lidl-planning-open-57-new-32731502\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Lidl<\/a>, Aldi and Morrisons all walked away with the coveted badge. Lidl Deluxe Pork Sausages (\u00a32.49 for 400g) achieved a score of 73% for their &#8220;eating pleasure&#8221;, moistness, texture and value for money.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woman in supermarket choose cooled raw sausages\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0_Woman-in-supermarket-choose-cooled-raw-sausages.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Supermarket own brands came out on top\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Supermarket own brands came out on top(Image: Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This compares with the 72% achieved by Aldi Specially Selected Pork Sausages, which were described as &#8220;impressive all-rounders&#8221;. A 400g pack is also priced at \u00a32.49.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Morrisons&#8217; The Best Thick Pork Sausages likewise scored 72%, with a 400g pack retailing at \u00a33.25. Two thirds of participants also praised the texture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Priced at \u00a33.17 for 400g (79p per 100g), they are marginally more expensive, reports <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/food\/2205986\/best-supermarket-sausages-taste-test\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">the Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Co-op sausages also performed well, priced at \u00a33.90 for 400g (98p per 100g).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Tasters appreciated the taste and texture, though some felt they could benefit from a little extra flavour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">When it came to The Jolly Hog and Porky Whites, both branded options failed to secure the top spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Jolly Pork had an appealing appearance and aroma &#8211; but the taste was deemed too mild and the texture characterised as &#8220;too coarse&#8221;. Overall, they were awarded a score of 65%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Porky Whites also received 65%, with fewer than half of the testers satisfied with the texture.
