{"id":96235,"date":"2025-05-12T20:37:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T20:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/96235\/"},"modified":"2025-05-12T20:37:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T20:37:09","slug":"government-control-could-spark-the-rise-of-dark-stablecoins-how","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/96235\/","title":{"rendered":"Government control could spark the rise of \u2018dark stablecoins&#8217; &#8211; How?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per CryptoQuant founder, \u2018dark stablecoins\u2019 may be the answer to increasing government control of legacy digital dollars.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community reactions were mixed; some supported it, while others maintained that BTC is a better alternative.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju has <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ki_young_ju\/status\/1921521574450213293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">predicted<\/a> the possible rise of censorship-resistant \u2018dark stablecoins\u2019 in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Young Ju argued that increasing push for government control on legacy <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/stablecoins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">stablecoins<\/a> like Circle\u2019s USDC and Tether\u2019s USDT could accelerate the \u2018dark stablecoins\u2019 scenario.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-12-140354.png\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-490768\" class=\"wp-image-490768 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-12-140354.png\" alt=\"stablecoin\" width=\"593\" height=\"631\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-490768\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: X<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bitcoin vs. stablecoins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Young Ju, <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Bitcoin\u2019s [BTC]<\/a> early adopters embraced it because of its censorship-resistant ability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the intermediaries involved in regulated stablecoins will make it difficult for legacy digital dollars to survive government control.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The executive projected that the \u2018dark stablecoins\u2019 may be \u2018algorithmic\u2019 or those issued by friendly countries that don\u2019t impose financial controls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He cited Tether\u2019s USDT as a potential \u2018dark stablecoin\u2019 candidate if the firm opted out of U.S. compliance purview.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUSDT itself used to be considered a censorship-resistant stablecoin. If Tether chooses not to comply with U.S. government regulations under a future Trump administration, it could become a dark stablecoin in an increasingly censored internet economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here, it is worth noting that U.S stablecoin bills, especially the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/u-s-senate-split-on-genius-act-stablecoin-rules-by-august\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">GENIUS Act,<\/a> propose strict control on on-shore digital dollar issuers for national security and consumer security purposes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This includes a restricted access feature to the digital dollar if the recipient is on government\u2019s blacklist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Young Ju\u2019s outlook elicited mixed reactions. Some supported the idea, with one user calling legacy stablecoins a \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Bit_VM\/status\/1921535277924815132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">chokepoint for BTC<\/a>.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cStablecoins are a choke point for Bitcoin, like any third-party intermediary. Europe has already tightened access to Bitcoin via stablecoin regulation. And, the U.S. is also slowly gaining more control over USDT flows. I agree, we need dark stablecoins!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, others <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hong_yoon9\/status\/1921857045151785180\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">believed<\/a> that BTC was enough and there was no need for \u2018dark stablecoins.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoins are digital currencies pegged to other digital or traditional currencies like the U.S. dollar, the Euro, or commodities like gold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As of the 25th of May, U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins remain the most dominant in the segment. <\/p>\n<p>Tether\u2019s USDT and Circle\u2019s USDC collectively control over 90% of the market.
