Microsoft\u2019s latest Windows 11 test will allow you to reposition the taskbar<\/a> and change the size of the Start menu. The update, which is rolling out to Windows 11 Insiders<\/a> in the Experimental channel, lets you place the taskbar on the bottom, top, left, or right side of the screen.<\/p>\n

Microsoft first teased its movable taskbar in March<\/a> as part of efforts to rebuild trust among users<\/a>. You can adjust the alignment of the icons inside the taskbar, as well as open the Start menu drawer from wherever you placed it. Windows 11 Insiders can access a shorter taskbar, too, which could come in handy for devices with smaller displays. There\u2019s also an option to choose from a \u201cSmall\u201d or \u201cLarge\u201d Start menu.<\/p>\n

The Start menu\u2019s layout will soon get easier to adjust as well, with new toggles that will allow you to show or hide the \u201cPinned,\u201d \u201cRecommended,\u201d and \u201cAll\u201d sections. The company is also renaming the \u201cRecommended\u201d section to \u201cRecent\u201d to \u201cbetter reflect what the section primarily shows, including recently installed apps and recently used files.\u201d You can now hide your name and profile picture from the Start menu, too, in case you\u2019re sharing your screen or making a presentation.<\/p>\n
