warmest day of the year so far.<\/p>\n<p>Lightning strikes, heavy showers and hail lashed areas in central and southern England on Monday afternoon as a yellow thunderstorm warning issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/met-office\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Met Office;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Met Office<\/a> came into force.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Auchincruive in South Ayrshire hit 25.4C making it Scotland\u2019s warmest day of 2025 and hotter than Los Angeles in California.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ NC500 to tackle depopulation<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It surpasses the 24.4C recorded in Aboyne in Aberdeenshire on April 30.<\/p>\n<p>Met Office forecaster Ellie Glaisyer said: \u201cWe have seen quite a few thunderstorms breaking out this afternoon, mainly across central and southern parts of England, and then moving their way north-westwards over the past couple of hours into parts of Wales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne or two just affecting north-western parts of England as well, we\u2019ve seen one or two moving out towards into the Irish Sea as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Radar imagery shows 40mm to 50mm of rain has fallen in an hour in parts of England, Glaisyer said.<\/p>\n<p>She went on: \u201cWe\u2019ve seen reports of hail, plenty of lightning strikes as well, all within that warning area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The thunderstorm warning is in place until 10pm and heavy showers will push into north-west England and parts of Wales, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n<p>The showers are expected to ease overnight, but there will be some rain and thunder across southern England on Tuesday, forecasters say.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures were warm on Monday afternoon, with Blackpool hitting 27.4C.<\/p>\n<p>Will thunderstorms\u00a0hit Scotland?<\/p>\n<p>It is unlikely\u00a0as from Tuesday onwards, the weather is forecast to turn more settled, with highs of low to mid 20s.<\/p>\n<p>Warmer weather is predicted across the Central Belt and the west coast\u00a0after dry weather and warmer temperatures led to a spate of wildfires across the
