Hull FC’s full-back spot is Logan Moy’s to lose. The words of interim head coach Andy Last at the start of the month.<\/p>\n
The 20-year-old, who had to bide his time early this season in the reserves and on loan after a pre-season calf injury, has played the Black and Whites’ last five Super League games and looks good value for it.<\/p>\n
An energetic young player, Moy has been solid and dependable, but there’s a determination now to hold his spot and get to the next level.<\/p>\n
Rising through Hull’s youth system, his goal now is to do exactly that, with the local talent buoyed by the confidence placed in him and ready to kick on.<\/p>\n
Addressing Last’s comments, Moy said: “It’s good pressure. It’s what I need. When you go out there, you just want the boys to trust you, and I think I’m starting to get that now.<\/p>\n
“For me, it’s just building blocks and getting to the point where hopefully one day I can get my spot cemented.<\/p>\n
“Coming into the team, there was a bit of pressure. I had some big boots to fill with Prycey (Will Pryce) going down. He is an unbelievable player, and I have to try to get to that standard.<\/p>\n
“There’s a long way for me to go yet, but I think I’m getting more confident every game. That’s definitely helping me, but when I came into the team, I was just absolutely buzzing with my opportunity.<\/p>\n
“I wasn’t thrown in the deep end, playing reserves and on loan first, and at the time it was a killer, as you want to get straight out there and play, but taking my time with it has worked.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, Davy (Litten) played a few games at full-back first, and while he’s happy to do it for the team, it’s not his favoured position, so that really made me think I need to get my head down a bit here. Hopefully I can see the season out now.”<\/p>\n
Of course, Pryce’s season was cruelly ended back in February with a devastating ACL injury, but after successful surgery, he’s on his way back in rehab and is helping where he can to bring Moy on.<\/p>\n
“He sits behind me in the meeting room,” Moy said. “Little things will come up on the board when we’re doing video, and he’s constantly tapping me, just talking to me about my skill and where I’m standing, like my starting points. Just little things, not massive things, but little things, and it always helps.<\/p>\n
“Prycey has got a great skill level, and he’s so fast \u2013 he’s probably one of the best for me to learn off at the minute. He’s really helped me out. He’s always at training, giving me little tips; it’s the same with all the boys.<\/p>\n
“Zak (Hardaker) has also been massive for me, just giving me little pointers and stuff. I’m learning all of the time.”<\/p>\n
On those improvements, Moy has a clear vision. He wants to be able to nail that final pass in attack and add some more detail into his game.<\/p>\n
“The main one at the minute is my three v-twos and my ball playing,” Moy said. “Last year I was told to stop thinking too much about my pass. It’s just having the confidence to throw that pass, and the more games I get, I’m sure it will come.<\/p>\n
“You’ve just got to be crisp, and it’s got to be within a second, but I just want to get better at that. There’s a lot to work on. I’m not the best full-back in the comp, but I just want to give my best for the team. I think I’ve done alright so far, and I’m confident it’ll slowly come.”<\/p>\n
And as a team, the challenge is to get back to winning ways against Bradford Bulls at Odsal, with a firm response targeted after a disappointing defeat to Toulouse last time out.<\/p>\n
“It’s a bit grubby, Odsal, isn’t it?” Moy added. “It’s probably not my favourite place to play. The atmosphere is good, and that’s probably the best bit, but yeah, it’s a narrow pitch, and we’ve looked into all that.<\/p>\n
“It’s going to be tight and it’s going to be messy, but we’re just going to have to complete high and just hope our plays come off the back of that.<\/p>\n
“It’s going to be a tough game. It’s not going to be easy.
