File Photo by Tolga Akmen\/EPA-EFE<\/p>\n<p>May 12 (UPI) &#8212; A fire at an electrical substation disrupted train service throughout London, including the underground Tube, and forced evacuations at stations on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>At about 2:30 p.m. local time, key parts of the Underground and Overground networks were hit, with Elizabeth, Bakerloo, Jubilee and Northern lines affected, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/tube-latest-power-outage-hits-london-underground-as-multiple-lines-suspended-and-stations-closed-13366731\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sky News reported<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/tube-dlr-overground\/status\/#line-lul-bakerloo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By Monday night<\/a>, most services of the 20 lines had been restored.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.london-fire.gov.uk\/incidents\/2025\/may\/electrical-substation-fire-maida-vale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London Fire Brigade<\/a> said a cable fault led to an electrical substation fire in west London&#8217;s Maida Vale residential neighborhood. The cause is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Jubilee line was suspended on its busiest stretch between London Bridge and Finchley Road, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/news-and-advice\/london-underground-power-cut-update-tfl-elizabeth-line-b2749368.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Independent reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow Airport passengers and staff who normally use the Piccadilly line were affected.<\/p>\n<p>At Piccadilly Circus, one passenger said they were stuck on their train for &#8220;quite a long time.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lots of tourists with huge suitcases, plus elderly and disabled people having to climb all the standstill escalators as no lifts were working,&#8221; the person said.<\/p>\n<p>Electrical power is handled by National Grid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fault was resolved within seconds and did not interrupt supply from our network,&#8221; National Grid <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nationalgriduk\/status\/1921957430998507803\" target=\"_blank\">posted on X<\/a> in apologizing for the fault on the transmission network in central London.<\/p>\n<p>On March 20 and 21, a fire at a high-voltage substation in Hayes, West London, disrupted service and caused the temporary closure of Heathrow Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The Tube is the common name for London&#8217;s underground rapid transit system in London and outskirts of the city with 250 miles of track.
