{"id":964491,"date":"2026-05-16T14:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T14:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/964491\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T14:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T14:36:07","slug":"tom-tykwer-nora-fingscheidt-and-more-unveil-german-dogma-at-cannes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/964491\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Tykwer, Nora Fingscheidt and More Unveil German Dogma at Cannes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/dogma-25-cannes-may-el-toukhy-1236401704\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dogma 25<\/a> movement is spreading.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tom-tykwer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-tykwer\" data-tag=\"tom-tykwer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Tykwer<\/a>, Kurdwin Ayub, \u0130lker \u00c7atak, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/nora-fingscheidt\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nora-fingscheidt\" data-tag=\"nora-fingscheidt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nora Fingscheidt<\/a> and Helene Hegemann have joined forces as a group to create five independent films under its umbrella, in order to create \u201cfree and unpredictable cinema.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis was announcement comes exactly one year after <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/dogma\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dogma\" data-tag=\"dogma\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dogma<\/a> 25 bowed at Cannes, with five Danish directors \u2013 May el-Toukhy, Milad Alami, Annika Berg, Isabella Ekl\u00f6f and Jesper Just \u2013 announcing their projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAccording to the organizers, the new chapter in Dogma history has arrived at a time \u201cwhen cinema faces major structural challenges: productions are becoming more expensive, financing increasingly fragmented and complex, while studios worldwide are prioritizing safety over innovation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt \u201ccreates a counterpoint where filmmakers can freely express themselves, beyond calculated expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDogma was first launched in 1995. On board are X Verleih \u2013 as the German-language distributor \u2013 and TrustNordisk as the international sales agent. ZDF and Arte are planned to enter as the broadcasting partners, while MOIN Film Fund has been confirmed as the first regional funding body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe German Dogma movement is emerging as a co-production between X Filme Creative Pool and Zentropa Germany.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn the part of X Filme, the project is produced by Jorgo Narjes, Uwe Schott, and Tom Tykwer; on the part of Zentropa Germany, by Solmaz Azizi, Louise Vesth, and Tine Mikkelsen. The feature film by \u0130lker \u00c7atak is overseen by Ingo Fliess as producer. It is a co-production of if\u2026Productions, X Filme and Zentropa Germany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tToday\u2019s announcement comes on the heels of Netflix\u2019s involvement in the five first <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/dogma-25\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dogma-25\" data-tag=\"dogma-25\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dogma 25<\/a> films, announced last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUnder the deal signed with Zentropa, the giant U.S. streamer will release the Dogma 25 titles in the Nordics after their local theatrical run via Nordisk Film Distribution, to be followed by the airing on Danish pubcaster DR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe window between the films\u2019 cinema release and their showcase on Netflix will be between six-to-eight months, which is the traditional window in Denmark between theatrical and SVOD. So our agreement with Netflix doesn\u2019t differ from the ones we have for all our other films, which is important,\u201d producer and Zentropa co-managing director Louise Vesth told\u00a0Variety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled about our\u00a0collaboration with\u00a0Netflix, their very first pre-buy with us,\u201d Vesth continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI have been in discussion with them for some years, just to understand how they work. At Zentropa, we build catalogues and we protect the rights for our filmmakers and for our company, so it wasn\u2019t really possible before to work with the Netflix business model, until early this year. We had a conversation because the Dogma 25 is a brand, and I strongly believe that Netflix \u2013 and the filmmakers \u2013 will gain enormously from building this artistic and auteur-driven brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cBranding is the new way of helping filmmakers and artistic films to get a strong ground. Like here in Cannes. Hollywood [the masters in branding] may be disappearing. This is a chance for us in Europe to fill the gap and be better at building brands,\u00a0and this is what we\u2019re doing at Zentropa with Dogma 25.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>First out among the five Nordic Dogma 25 titles will be Ekl\u00f6f\u2019s BDSM love story \u201cMr Nawashi \u201c starring Esben Smed (\u201cA Fortunate Man,\u201d \u201cThe Last Resort\u201d) and newcomer Tanya Holm Andersen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tInspired by Ekl\u00f6f\u2019s personal experience, the pic follows Katarina, a talented singer, but somehow lacking self-discipline, who flourishes -both mentally and physically-when she enters a BDSM online relationship with the mysterious Mr. Nawashi. However, the mutual attraction quickly spirals into obsession and dependency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I had with this guy was a consensual BDSM relationship where you know you\u2019re playing a very dangerous game. But it can also be very beautiful and extremely exciting, because fear and excitement are so closely linked. I\u2019ve never had so good sex in my life before or after!\u201c Ekl\u00f6f told\u00a0Variety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on her Dogma 25 filming experience, Ekl\u00f6f said: \u201cI\u2019ve never been under so much pressure, not only because of the creative constraints, but because it\u2019s my own life story, and I have an obsession with making it authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Filming of \u201cMr Nawashi\u201d is underway and will be delivered in 2027. Next up are Annika Berg, Jesper Just films to completed in 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMay [El el-Toukhy] will probably start later this year, early 2027, and Milad [Alami] as well.
