Not only is train travel a novel way to experience new European destinations, it\u2019s also more sustainable<\/a>.<\/p>\n And with 73% of travellers believing it\u2019s important to minimise their environmental impact while travelling, it\u2019s little wonder rail experiences are being revived.<\/p>\n From the European Sleeper<\/a> bringing back the\u00a0popular\u00a0Paris<\/a>-Berlin\u00a0night train this year, go a new EuroNight train from\u00a0Basel<\/a>\u00a0in Switzerland<\/a>, to\u00a0Copenhagen<\/a>\u00a0in Denmark<\/a> and\u00a0Malm\u00f6<\/a>\u00a0in Sweden \u2013 train travel is ramping up.<\/p>\n But when your trip across Europe involves multiple trains<\/a>, sometimes from different operators, things can get a little stressful. So, if you were to miss a connection, you would be rerouted to your destination without having to buy another ticket, regardless of whether the two legs were run by the same rail operator.<\/p>\n As well as rerouting assistance, you should also be offered food and accommodation if you\u2019re stranded overnight, as well as compensation.<\/p>\n Train operators would also be required to make tickets available five months in advance, with all ticket options displayed to customers during the booking process.<\/p>\n \u2018Freedom of movement is one of Europe\u2019s greatest achievements,\u2019 Apostolos Tzitzikostas, commissioner for sustainable transport and tourism, said in a statement. \u2018Today, we are taking it a step further by making travel across all 27 Member States simpler, smarter and more passenger friendly.\u2019<\/p>\n Although the\u00a0UK\u00a0is no longer a member of the European Union, it should also\u00a0benefit, if this becomes a reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t Since this was announced on Thursday, the European Commission has submitted the proposed regulations to the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.<\/p>\n It should then be examined and approved, with around 85% of laws adopted at the end of the first reading or beginning of the second, according to the\u00a0European Council.<\/p>\n So keep an eye out for any developments because train travel could be about to be much easier.<\/p>\n Do you have a story to share?<\/strong><\/p>\n Get in touch by emailing MetroLifestyleTeam@Metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"Woman](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2272661827.jpg\")
