Rory McIlroy has made it clear he’s got no interest in PGA Tour politics as the golf star prepares to play at the PGA Championship later this month.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old will go in that major determined to secure more glory after winning the Masters at Augusta in April.<\/p>\n

McIlroy had waited 11 years to taste glory on the biggest stage once again, while he’d also failed to win the Masters in 16 previous attempts.<\/p>\n

He became the first European golfer in history to scoop the career Grand Slam, however, as he beat Justin Rose in a dramatic play-off to etch his name into the record books.<\/p>\n

McIlroy will be hoping to win the PGA Championship when it kicks off later this week.<\/p>\n

He previously won the tournament in 2014, when he fended off competition from Phil Mickelson to reign supreme.<\/p>\n

McIlroy has been involved in golf politics in recent years. Now, however, he’s made it clear he ‘doesn’t care’ what’s happening behind the scenes – which has freed him up to focus more on his exploits on the course.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m certainly not involved too much in the politics of everything,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing on the board of this tour, and even just talking about, like, you know, changes to the tour championship, and all that.<\/p>\n

“I’ve no idea what’s going on, and I, you know, I think at this point, I don’t care.<\/p>\n

“You know, I just, I want to play golf, and the reason I got into this game was to shoot scores, and try to play the best golf possible.”<\/p>\n

McIlroy seems unburdened following his sensational Masters win.<\/p>\n

He had gone into every major prior to that weighed down by pressure and expectation, with the wait only getting longer.<\/p>\n

Now he’s secured the green jacket, he’s able to play with far more freedom – something that doesn’t bode well for his rivals.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, McIlroy’s parents were unable to attend his Masters win last month due to the fact they were in the process of moving house.<\/p>\n

And the golf star said last week that he was a ‘mess’ upon being reunited with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to see my parents and the people that were closest to me, and we had a really nice two days,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith my dad, like I never get that emotional with my dad. It was great. It was great to see him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen when I saw my mum… we were both a mess for a few minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his Masters triumph, he added: \u201cI would say it was 14 years in the making, going out with a four-shot lead in 2011, you\u2019re feeling like I could have got it done there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did (make a lot of sacrifices). I can\u2019t wait to see them next week.
