Willie Peters insists leaving Jack Broadbent out of the Hull KR starting line-up on Saturday was one of the hardest decisions he’s made as a coach.<\/p>\n

With Arthur Mourgue missing most the season through injury, Broadbent has been KR’s starting full-back, with the versatile 25-year-old starring in the position in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

However, Peters took the decision to name Broadbent on the bench this week, with the fit again Mourgue coming straight back into the starting line-up. It was a bold call that was justified for an hour with Mourgue looking the part and scoring what would prove to be the decisive try in KR’s 20-16 win over Leigh Leopards.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the Frenchman’s return from injury quickly turned into a disaster as he appeared to reinjure the pec he tore in the World Club Challenge back in February. Whether it was a recurrence of the same injury or something else is unknown at this point, but it seems he will be a doubt for the Challenge Cup final at this point.<\/p>\n

Broadbent was the man called up for the last 18 minutes of the game at Leigh Sports Village and he played tremendously well, stepping into the game and helping KR keep the resurgent Leigh out late on.<\/p>\n

However, speaking after the game, Peters revealed how Broadbent has been a shining example this week, despite getting the news that he wouldn’t be starting against the Leopards.<\/p>\n

“It’s probably the hardest decision I’ve had to make so far,” Peters said. “Jack had a slow start to the season.<\/p>\n

“He had a really strong pre-season but he had a slow start for his standards and what we value. The last five weeks he’s been outstanding and that’s what made it more difficult.<\/p>\n

“All you have to do is look what he did when he came on the field and some of the players he came up. What we did during the week, naturally he was upset during the week, but he was our best trainer in terms of effort and attitude.<\/p>\n

“You could do a poll of who you’re going to play and a lot of people would say Jack Broadbent in the team, and rightly so, but he still had the effort and attitude to do what he did at training and that transferred and his skipper just gave him a rap for that in front of the team.<\/p>\n

“It says a lot about him. He’s matured a lot, he’s grown a lot and he’s important to what we do. Sometimes the unfortunate thing with Jack is that he can play certain positions but he’s so valuable to our team.
