{"id":967284,"date":"2026-05-17T20:24:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T20:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/967284\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T20:24:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T20:24:18","slug":"walsall-tory-leader-wishes-new-reform-council-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/967284\/","title":{"rendered":"Walsall Tory leader wishes new Reform council \u2018success\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6a09f4ca42583.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The Conservative group leader in Walsall has congratulated the new Reform administration and wished them success.\n        <\/p>\n<p>Councillor Adrian Andrew also said he\u2019s sure \u2018everyone who was elected last week is there to do the best for Walsall\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Pheasey Park Farm councillor was deputy leader of Walsall Council before Reform wiped the Tories out at the local elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was also portfolio holder for regeneration in Walsall, and was first appointed to the role in the mid-2000s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Andrew said: \u201cCongratulations to them, they\u2019ve won the election. But some of the hard yards are actually done once you\u2019re in and when you\u2019re governing the borough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a big complex organisation and I really do wish them success because the borough needs success. That\u2019s what we want to see.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re yet to have a council meeting but the reality is the people have spoken and we accept the will of the people. That\u2019s the democracy we\u2019re all proud to live in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Andrew said Reform will \u2018clearly be making all the decisions\u2019 after the electorate voted in 40 councillors out of 60 on May 7.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cOur job is to scrutinise what\u2019s going on. We\u2019re going to scrutinise them and I\u2019m sure the 20 opposition councillors that were elected will be in a position to challenge what they\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Andrew has often described Walsall as being on the \u2018cusp of a renaissance\u2019 because of the various major regeneration projects currently underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added that the cabinet position for regeneration has \u2018never been party political\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Andrew said: \u201cBecause these regeneration plans are so long in the making, it\u2019s never been party political, even when we had the Labour administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere might be differences in the way you deliver things but, at the end of the day, I\u2019m sure everyone who has been elected are there to do the best for Walsall Borough and to make sure that we are regenerating the place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest things that the council has had to deal with, particularly over the last couple of years and few months, is the huge cost increases on projects across the board because of international events and the state of the economy. Prices of materials and contracts are just going through the roof.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Walsall is on the cusp of a renaissance and we need to grasp the nettle, carry on and deliver for the people of Walsall.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Conservative group leader in Walsall has congratulated the new Reform administration and wished them success.
