{"id":968233,"date":"2026-05-18T07:26:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/968233\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T07:26:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:26:23","slug":"morrisroe-coup-as-firm-set-to-rebuild-aston-villa-stand-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/968233\/","title":{"rendered":"Morrisroe coup as firm set to rebuild Aston Villa stand | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Morrisroe will begin work this month to expand Aston Villa\u2019s ground after confirming in its latest accounts it will carry out a design and build contract to rebuild Villa Park\u2019s North Stand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.building.co.uk\/news\/green-light-for-aston-villa-stadium-expansion\/5137838.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The scheme<\/a>, which has been designed by Grimshaw, is intended to eventually take capacity at the Europa League finalist\u2019s stadium to above 50,000 from its current 42,500.<\/p>\n<p>It will see the stand\u2019s capacity increased by 5,926 seats taking ground capacity to around 48,800 with other schemes elsewhere at Villa Park bringing capacity above the 50,000 mark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"villa\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2030212_villa_841969.jpg\"  loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1000\" height=\"695\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Morrisroe\u2019s work, which will be carried out by its Kingscote Construction arm, will involve adapting and extending the existing deck in the bowl backwards, upwards and outwards. The current facade would be retained and reclad, while the roof will be replaced with a new one, which, according to planning documents, will \u201cappear to float above the Stand\u201d and will allow light to pass through.<\/p>\n<p>The extended stand would be 34.5m in height, taller than the current 28m but smaller than a previously consented scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Morrisroe said it was \u201cdelighted\u201d to have won the job, which was initially given a \u00a3100m price tag before a redesign, and added: \u201cThe project reflects a strong collaborative approach, with approximately 40% of specialist services delivered in-house by Morrisroe Group companies and complemented by two key strategic supply chain partners and a carefully coordinated wider supply chain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Villa\u2019s last home game was on Friday night against Liverpool, paving the way for work to start immediately with a finish of December next year planned as the ground is due to stage Euro 2028 matches the following summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"villa park\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2030232_villapark_65304.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Morrisroe added: \u201cThe scheme will require meticulous planning and delivery within a live stadium environment and will serve as a further flagship example of our capability to manage and deliver complex, high-profile stadium projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The wider project team for the Villa Park expansion includes cost consultant Core Five, town planning and transport consultant WSP, structural engineer David Smith Associates and MEP engineer ME Engineers.<\/p>\n<p>The last major work at Villa Park was Christiani &amp; Nielsen\u2019s scheme to rebuild the Trinity Road stand in 2000 with the North Stand now the oldest at the ground having been completed in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>The job marks a move into main contracting for the Hertfordshire-based contractor with the firm saying in its accounts that turnover edged up 2% to \u00a3191m in the year to October with pre-tax profit jumping from \u00a3708,000 to \u00a34.5m. Its balance sheet was up 7% to \u00a365.5m at the year-end while its cash balance was up 42% to \u00a325.5m.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, which is forecasting a turnover of \u00a3195m this year, said its order book in January this year was up 41% to \u00a3340m.<\/p>\n<p>Morrisroe also said that it been appointed by Sisk to carry out piling, basement and superstructure works for phase 3C of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment \u2013 confirming that the latter has won the deal to build out the final two Gehry-designed buildings at the site.<\/p>\n<p>Phase 3C, which is believed to be worth around \u00a3280m, includes two buildings of 15-storeys, featuring more than 300 flats, as well as shops, caf\u00e9s and restaurants and a community hub.
