The marathon is returning this weekend.<\/p>\n
As the capital gears up for this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival<\/a>, event organisers have reminded locals of the road closures and parking restrictions in place.<\/p>\n Thousands of people are set to hit the streets between Friday, May 22 and Sunday, May 24, taking on the marathon, half marathon, 10k or 5k. A number of roads across the city and East Lothian<\/a> will be closed, and buses diverted, to accommodate the routes.<\/p>\n The main event<\/a> runs from Potterrow to Musselburgh, passing some of the capital’s most iconic locations and landmarks.<\/p>\n Organisers, working alongside Edinburgh and East Lothian councils, have stressed they strive to minimise disruption to allow those directly affected to “carry on with their daily routine with as little inconvenience as possible”.<\/p>\n However, they also warned breaches of the closures will be taken very seriously by Police Scotland, who will be in attendance.<\/p>\n They added: “Please respect the road closures and do not threaten the safety of our participants and Event Team. We will cleanse and reopen the roads as soon as is safe to do so.”<\/p>\n The event area has been divided into seven zones, each with their own individual road closures and parking restrictions. Details of where the zones cover can be found below, with information about the closures by day and time here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Zone 1: Holyrood Park – Prestonfield – Potterrow – The Mound – Jeffrey Street – Canongate.<\/p>\n Zone 2: Royal Park Terrace – Restalrig – Craigentinny – Seafield – Portobello – Joppa<\/p>\n Zone 3: Edinburgh Road – Promenade – Eskside – Goose Green – Balcarres Road<\/p>\n Zone 4: Musselburgh – Newbigging – Inveresk – Pinkie – Wallyford – Ravensheugh Road<\/p>\n Zone 5: Prestonpans – Edinburgh Road – West Harbour Road<\/p>\n Zone 6: Cockenzie High Street – Port Seton – Seton Sands<\/p>\n Zone 7: Seton Sands Holiday Park – Gosford – Aberlady<\/p>\n A number of bus services operated by Lothian will also be affected across the city and East Lothian. The operator said it is working closely with partners to provide links for participants and spectators, as well ensuring it can maintain connections for customers who live and work locally over the marathon weekend.<\/p>\n Shuttle buses will operate in certain areas of East Lothian where required on Sunday due to road closures for the Marathon and Half Marathon. Passengers are advised to plan ahead as traffic congestion in some parts is anticipated.<\/p>\n They advised spectators and supporters to use stop PN at Waverley Steps to catch the 26 or 44 service to Musselburgh, or stop ZK at Waterloo Place for the East Coast Buses 124 service to Longniddry.<\/p>\n The Service 226 Shuttle Bus will operate between Seton Sands and Prestonpans (Hawthorn Road), providing connections with Services X4 and 124 for onward travel between Wallyford\/Musselburgh and Edinburgh city centre.<\/p>\n The Service c124 Shuttle Bus will operate between Aberlady (Community Hall) and North Berwick (Church Road), providing connections with Service 124 for onward travel between Musselburgh and Edinburgh city centre.<\/p>\n
